It was the first Saturday they'd been able to spend time together during the day in quite a while. Hermione had hired an extra employee, and it was the first time she'd trusted him enough to leave him to tend the shop on a busy Saturday. Roger was glad of it, because the longer it went with her working extended hours, the more worried he got. They both worked hard, both liked to, but it wasn't worth it if they couldn't spend time together.
The Halloween Fete should be good, he knew, a chance to see people and to get mre of his work out there. He'd donated a few furniture commissions to be given away at the raffle, and was on hand to meet whomever it was he'd be building for.
When they went inside, he took in the decorations, the fall colors, and the warm atmosphere, and noticed a few kids running about. He placed a hand on the small of Hermione's back, glad that she was with him, and smiled.
"I've missed this, you know."

Today wasn't for thoughts of work, though. It was the Halloween fete in town, and, for once, she didn't even mind that there'd be a crowd. She just wanted to spend time with Roger and try to get into a habit of working more normal hours. Now that she could actually cut her schedule back, she'd have to make sure that Roger wasn't working too hard.
"I've missed it, too," she said, smiling up at Roger before she glanced around the room to make sure it was safe. It had been nearly a year since Voldemort died, but she still had that same cautionary reflex.

"I'm now wondering which game I can convince you to play," he said, smiling sneakily.

She rolled her eyes when he mentioned games and flashed a sneaky smile. "I don't like playing games. You, however, can play whatever you'd like, and I'll simply take the prize if it's something I want," she said in a bossy tone as she bumped her hip against his.
"Seriously, maybe we should walk around and see what they've got. It looks like there's a lot set up."

He bumped her hip back. "Yeah, we'll see what they've got," he said with a grin, and they walked along. "Think I'll pass on bobbing for apples, but maybe this one."
He'd stopped at a simple ring toss one, and was eyeing the rings dubiously. "Look at that," he said, shaking his head even as he handed some money to the vendor for five rings. "The ring is only just wide enough to get round the bottle neck. Chances of doing it at this distance are pretty slim."
But he was always up for a challenge. He glanced askance at Hermione, his smile a bit cheeky. He knew she didn't like games much, but he did, even silly ones like this, and he loved her for indulging him sometimes. Plus, the chances of her getting all matter-of-fact and swotty increased whenever he was doing something like this.
He leveled one of the rings and did a few test throws before he let the first one go. And missed. "Bugger," he murmured, "come on."
He was on his last ring went it finally worked, and he punched the air before he grinned at Hermione. "See? Simple as that. Now, which prize?"

They stopped at a ring toss, and she watched Roger toss the rings. He missed four of the five, and he looked so disappointed that she couldn't help but smile. "Maybe this one will win." He tossed it and it went onto the bottle.
"See?" she said smugly. "I told you it would be the one." She looked around and then leaned up to kiss his cheek. "Who needs a prize when you already have me?"
