Su had stopped home for lunch, as she sometimes did, and brought some work with her. She had given her two-week notice at the Ministry, and she suspected that her supervisor was not happy with the news, as Claudia had loaded her down with work ever since. Su had had to stay late every night that week to get things done, and her mind was going off in sixteen different directions.
Which was why, half-way down the front walk, she realized that she had left some rather important documents on the kitchen table. She pivoted on the spot and headed back towards the building, rummaging in her bag as she walked to make sure that the papers weren't there. Su looked up just in time to make a sudden stop and avoid running into a brown-haired woman in glasses who looked vaguely familiar.
"Oh, I'm sorry," Su apologized. "I didn't mean to nearly run you down."
