Marcus had returned to Stoatshead without Padma who stayed behind to shop in New York. He would have gone with her but he had obligations he had to meet, so Padma had invited Orla instead. Marcus didn't sleep well without her on Tuesday night and it was worse on Wednesday. He thought he was a fucking sap for missing her but she'd become so important in his life, the reason along with Violet that he worked so hard to succeed and had found happiness.
The time away did give him the opportunity to think and he'd come to terms with many things including the fact that he wanted Padma to be his wife. The revelation had been shocking and as he stared up at the ceiling last night, he understood that it was inevitable now for him to ask her and soon. Now, as he sat on the edge of his chair looking at the night sky, he'd found peace with his decision and his plans were in motion.
He needed to find a ring. He'd done well enough to afford one and it was time he spent some of his funds on himself and Padma. They were progressing with their lives together and even Violet had come to accept her. He thought his daughter actually loved Padma in her own childish way, hanging on her every word and enjoying the interaction they shared.
Of course, there was always that niggling thought that he was rushing things. After all, it had only been about six months since their first time together but he kept telling himself this was right and his future was indelibly wrapped with Padma's.
Glancing over at the table, he renewed the warming charm on dinner. He'd made them rigatoni with spicy sausage and goat cheese, a loaf of bread and then he'd bought tiramasu for dessert. Marcus had come home early from practice and knew she had met with a client and wouldn't be back until later. He'd decided to eat on the deck since it was a crisp early autumn night, perfect for enjoying each other's company.
After lighting the candles on the table, he spun the bottle of wine once before he sat again and waited for Padma.
