Date: 13 September 2005
Characters: Rabastan Lestrange [Elizabeth Garner], Argus Filch
Location: Lestrange Brothers Claim, Old Stone Church
Status: Private
Summary: Rabastan gets back to business.
Completion: Complete

Rabastan had thought he had left the landscaping and window boxes surrounding Rodolphus' studio, gallery and residence, and the adjoining Lestrange Family business offices in good hands. The young couple who ran the greenhouses where the plantings were obtained came highly recommended by Rabastan's favorite vegetable stall owner at the local marketplace, who bought much of his stock from them. Actually, had the wife not gone into premature labor, his landscaping would likely have been nearly complete and in fabulous condition.

Unfortunately, that was far from the case.

Elizabeth had tried to straighten the situation out before Rabastan's return, but on learning that the couple was spending every minute with a tiny baby that may not survive, she knew her employer would not begrudge giving them additional time. She had consulted with another local nursery to see if there was anyone there who might be able to handle the plantings, but came up empty handed. She had set Tibbs and Strak on keeping the plants alive in their various containers until they could be planted properly, but Elizabeth knew that giving them free reign to plant themselves would be a mistake. She'd learned that one the hard way when the adolescent house elves helped her clean up around her own claim and plant around the front of her house.

As Rabastan listened to Elizabeth explain the situation, he simply nodded. "I understand, Elizabeth. The Monroe family has more important things on their minds at the moment. You were absolutely correct in that I would not wish to take them from their child. I hope you offered the well wishes on behalf of the family."

"Of course, Rabastan. I am sorry about the landscaping though. I had considered posting notices to see if there were any qualified people looking for employment to do the work, but the plants are safer in stasis then in the hands of someone lacking a green thumb. It's a shame the elves can't do it, really. That pair can make anything grow."

"Why don't we let them try, then?" Rabastan asked with a straight face. He was really teasing her. He remembered quite well the rather hideous topiaries and garish flower beds surrounding Elizabeth's otherwise tasteful cottage.

"Your memory is far too good to convince me that you do not remember what happened the last time those two were let loose to plant as they pleased." She shook her finger at him.

"I am not suggesting we simply let them have at it. Do you remember Argus Filch who managed the elves working the Art Festival? I was thinking, if he is still looking for work, he might be willing to supervise Tibbs and Strak and make sure that they planted to the plan. The man was absolutely brilliant at handling the elves and keeping them focused," Rabastan replied.

"The worst that could happen is he could say no. It sounds like an excellent scheme to me. Shall I write or will you?"

"I discovered he's actually my new neighbor. He claimed the house between the Old Stone Church and Roma. I will call in on my way home. If he is not in, then I will send Bronwyn off to find him."

"All right, then. I had better be off. I have meetings this afternoon. You are bringing a new business to town if all goes well."

"Really? Tell me, what am I buying now and how much will it cost me?" He chuckled. Elizabeth was a genius at finding bargains. However few businesses were portable enough to pickup and move to Stoats. "On second thought, go to your meeting. You can surprise me at the staff meeting tomorrow. I will see to Mr. Filch."

There was no answer when he knocked on Argus' door, therefore Rabastan decided write a letter for after dinner that evening.

Argus,

Thank you again for the fine work you did with the elves during the Arts Festival. If you would be interested in another week's worth of employment supervising a pair of elves on a landscaping project, please let me know.

Regards,
Rabastan Lestrange
