If she wasn't sulking and listening to her iPod full blast, Felicity had taken to practising the few charms she knew with her new wand. She kept insisting that she was going to hate the wizarding school when it started, but Florean had a sneaking suspicion that Felicity was finally started to enjoy living in Stoatshead Hill now that she could start doing magic.
"Just hold your arm a little higher," Florean instructed, demonstrating with his own wand. "Flick it like this and... Aguamenti!" Florean shot a stream of water a few feet away onto the grass.
Felicity rolled her eyes. "I know how to hold my wand, Dad."
Placing his hands on her shoulders, Florean turned her towards the river, not really wanting to get water all over him if she mastered the spell. "Go on then, smarty-pants. Show me."
She flicked her wand as she had been taught, tone a little stilted as she said the spell. A dribble of water trickled out the end of her wand.
"Not bad for a first try," Florean advised, pleased that she'd at least managed to do something. He smiled. "You just have to remember not to sound so scared of the spell."
"I'm not scared of the spell!" Felicity protested. "It only conjures water!" She scowled at him. "I can do it properly. See. Aguamenti!"
Florean spluttered, a stream of water covering him. The water was cold and he gasped for breath, blinking and pushing his hair from his eyes. "Well," he said finally, composing himself as he felt the water soaking into his shirt and making it stick to his chest, "I suppose I asked for that."
Felicity began to giggle until she was nearly double over with laughter. Florean pursed his lips and lifted his wand. "You think this is funny, do you?" he asked, raising his eyebrows. "If that's funny, this is going to be hilarious." Flashing her a grin, Florean set a jet of water on the squealing teenager.
