The day had dawned especially early that day. Violet came into the room, hopped on the bed and then proceeded to jump on it, giving Tracey no other recourse than to open her eyes. Of course, once that had occurred, Violet began to shout about how today was her birthday and she was so excited. She launched herself at Tracey and Tracery couldn't help but laugh. Well, it didn't happen every day, and she could remember being very excited about her own birthdays.

With no chance of sleeping in, Tracey climbed out of bed, still yelling five-year-old in tow. She pulled on her dressing gown and carried Violet out to the kitchen, setting her down at the table before going into the kitchen and starting to make pancakes. Today would be a good day. She had a nice surprise for Violet, and she had told Marcus to be on his best behavior. Things would go all right.

They had pancakes for breakfast and then nothing would serve Violet better than to have a nice long bath, have her done up nicely and pu in her nicest dress. The two spent the whole mornign doing this, making sure Violet's curls fell just right with the ribbons in them and that her shoes were nice and shiny. It was fun, Tracey decided, hearing her thank yous and squeals of delight. She deserved to be spoiled a little bit. It was her birthday, after all.

Around noon, just as Tracey was finishing putting a little bit of nail polish on Violet's tiny nails, she heard the door bell ring. She dried her daughter's fingers with a spell. "Go get the door for Dad, hmm?" Violet went skipping off to do just that.
