It had been a good day. Of course any day he woke beside Cissy he counted fortunate. He had felt bad rousing her that morning, but when she was not yet awake at 8 o'clock, he felt he should. Rabastan was well aware that she preferred to start her day early, as did he. When she expressed surprise at his coming home, he had been glad the deep tan he had acquired over the past week hid his small blush as he explained why he came.
"I thought perhaps you needed me. I can hardly claim to be willing to move mountains to get to you, darling, then balk at a couple of portkeys and a single apparition. I do have to return this morning, however. I still have appointments. I will be home Saturday after... Cissy? Why not join me in Morocco Saturday afternoon?"
Rabastan had one final appointment in Casablanca Saturday morning, then he was off to Marrakech, where he would remain before returning home that night. Saturday afternoon, the DeLaclaire family was hosting a party for their youngest son, Ali who was turning 13. Rabastan had promised long ago to attend. He knew his friends Jacques and Fatima would welcome Narcissa whole heartedly. She was already acquainted with Hassan DeLaclaire, whom she had interviewed for her New Orleans operation. He thought the diversion of a Moroccan fantasia, complete with bright sunshine, beautiful children, a warm family, and fabulous food would give her time to adjust to the idea of Lucius reappearing while allowing her to remain near Rabastan himself for the comfort and support of his company. There were few people on earth he adored more than the DeLaclaires and el-Rassouls. Considering that Fatima was an el-Rassoul by birth and a DeLaclaire by marriage, both families would be in attendance at her son's party, and he knew Cissy would be delighted with them all, particularly little Sala.
Forcefully turning his mind back to his work, Rabastan settled in to review his notes from the day. He was most definitely pleased. He had arranged for a 'gift from the people of Nigeria' of iroko wood planks in appropriate sizes for potions benches to be delivered 'to the students and faculty of the Stoatshead Hill School' for a relatively small investment. He would be providing a much-needed loan that would allow the small wizarding village outside Ogbomosho to upgrade their medical facility in return for their generous donation. As his Relief Group would front the loan and recoup the loan amount over the course of the next 10 years, along with a modest amount of interest, all Rabastan was really out was the price of 3-1/2 pounds of Just Desserts walnut fudge. His negotiations here in Casblanca were also going well. Overall, he was feeling quite pleased with himself.
Yes, it had been a good day.
