Eleanor couldn't ever remember being this nervous in her life. Tonight had to go well. It just had to. Not only had she actually talked her mother into coming to their house for dinner, but they were finally going to tell her family that Ernie had moved in.
So many things could go wrong. Disastrously wrong. Her mother could realize most of the appliances were charmed in the middle of dinner, and have a nervous breakdown. Her father could say something completely insane, and start a chain reaction of everyone saying stupid things. Ernie could realize exactly what he was in for, and dump her right then and there. Henry could be an utter git the entire evening...
Well, Eleanor was pretty much counting on that one. And that was really the least of her worries.
No, everything would be fine. If her mother had a nervous breakdown during dinner, they lived next door to a therapist. If her father said something completely insane, Eleanor could hit him with a silencing charm. It was her home, she was allowed to do magic. Ernie loved her, and if he hadn't dumped her after her father came barging into their bedroom, then chances were probably pretty slim that he was going to now.
It was going to be great! Eleanor had nearly convinced herself by the time she'd walked home from the Bookworm. However, when she walked through the front door, she was completely nauseous again. She would have gone to the toilet to be sick, but it was ten after six, and her family was due to arrive at seven. She didn't have time for that.
She really hoped that Ernie was holding up better than she was.
