"Could you not guess, Rodolphus? I do not think you were completely oblivious to the real reason I would join as often as I could when you would visit your betrothed or my fondness for a particular quiet blond." Rabastan was worried his brother would be angry with him or hurt. "Please do not hate me for this, Brother. Please."

Rodolphus went pale.

"Narcissa Malfoy?"

His voice held a fair amount of disbelief.

"Brother, you made a fine jest."

"It is true, Rodolphus. As much as I truly believe you loved Bella, I love Cissy. She is beyond amazing, Brother. Are you terribly angry with me?" Rabastan hoped his confession would not destroy the bond he had been regrowing with his brother, but he could no more stop loving Cissy than he could stop breathing.

Rodolphus stumbled over words for a moment, biting down hard enough on his lip by accident to make him wince.

"No, not overly." He said weakly. "I think, I am more shocked than anything. How long has this been going on?"

Rabastan saw his brother wince and wondered if it was the choice of women or the fact that the woman was bound in marriage to another.

"I believe that it is possible I have loved her since I was a schoolboy. However if you are asking how long we have been lovers, it is recent. I was led to her quite by accident one day shortly after I came to town at the Five Alarm and the lunch led to a renewal of friendship. The friendship led to old feelings resurfacing. Rodolphus, you have to believe that I thought hard on this. I need committment from my companion. I would not be with Cissy if I thought she would ever return to Lucius."

"I think you can see why as much as I would dearly love to have children, it may never be possible."

"I believe you, brother."

His mind was assaulting him with the things that Bella had whispered in his ear about both Narcissa and Andromeda, and Rodolphus bit down on his lip, trying to ignore his dead wife's paranoid whisperings.

"Yes, I suppose that would not be possible. Considering she already has a child and various other complications."

Rodolphus rubbed his temples absently.

"I think we face the very real possibility that we may well be the end of the Lestrange line, Rodolphus. I cannot forsake love to gain an heir. Cissy is too important to give up."

Rabastan ate quietly for a bit before he asked, "Brother, I am not particularly inclined to seek out the closest blood relations to inherit. I have a feeling I would dislike the result of the search." Dislike was probably too mild a term for whom he thought likely to have the most Lestrange blood in his line. Rabastan's memory rarely failed him and he was fairly confident he knew who sat where on the family tree.

"The other options I have considered are to bequeath it all to charities, or train someone to run the family businesses and perhaps adopt him or her into the family." He shook his head. "Neither is ideal, but I have no better ideas. What would you like to see done with the money, Rodolphus?"
