Caradoc had tried to stop by Arabella's earlier, but she wasn't in. He remembered she said something about volunteering at the animal shelter. Instead of bothering her at work, he decided to go a bit further and stop by the dairy he hadn't visited yet. He thought he'd pick up some ice cream to take home.

"If I had a dollar... pound for everytime one of my girls flounced out of a room just like that, I'd be a rich man." Caradoc had entered the dairy just in time to see the teenager take herself off. "Your daughter, I take it?"

"Indeed." Florean nodded. "Not quite sure how I ended up with a teenager. I'm sure it hasn't been that long since she was a toddler."

He grinned. "Can I help at all?"

"I hear you have eggs and butter, if so, I'd like a dozen and a pound. But I am really here for the ice cream. Do you have any with fruit mixed in?"

"I do, yes." Florean nodded, stepping out from behind the counter and starting to put a dozen eggs into a cardboard egg box. "I've got a few fruit ones, though they'd all be chocolate if my daughter had her say." Florean glanced at the freezer, which was running quite efficiently on the charms he had been using. "At the moment, I've got few flavours like summer berry, banana and good old-fashioned strawberry."

Florean closed the lid of the box, putting it on the counter and Summoning a pound of butter from one of the fridges. "Anything take your fancy?"

"I like chocolate, but fruit flavors are a favorite. I'll have a quart of the summer berry, and another of this peach. I think the peach will be perfect with the cobbler I noticed being put together at home earlier." Caradoc smiled. "You certainly have a nice assortment."

"Good choice," Florean said with a smile, slipping the eggs and butter into a bag. He flicked his wand at one of the tall freezers on the other side of the shop, the door swinging open. "I'm rather fond of chocolate, too. I'm trying to perfect an ice cream with dark chocolate at the moment." He Summoned the two containers that Caradoc had asked for, levitating them straight into another bag.

Florean shrugged. "I try. I like to experiment; ice cream is my passion. I would have just opened an ice cream parlour like my old one in Diagon Alley, but I decided that a dairy was just more practical and would probably get more business to start."

"There is an ice cream parlor near the school where I used to teach that used this cold marble slab to mix fruits, nuts, candies, all kinds of things, into its ice creams. I loved having their white chocolate ice cream mixed with dark chocolate chunks. I think the reverse would be tasty too."

"Did you have a place in Diagon Alley? You'll have to forgive me, I lived in New Orleans... America for the past 25 years until I moved back a few months ago."

"Sounds nice," Florean agreed. "I'm contemplating whether my dark chocolate ice cream should have anything in it," he admitted. "I might try orange. I don't know." Florean shrugged. "It calls for some experimentation."

He nodded. "I did, yes. Had to give it up during the war. Wanted to keep my family safe. My daughter was a lot younger then." Florean glanced down at the items Caradoc had selected, then looked back up at him. "And how are you paying today? I do bartering or money."

"The orange sounds good, but cooking is not something I have ever been good at. But if you need tasters, I'm certainly good at that part." He chuckled.

"I can pay in British Pounds or if you'd like to barter for services, I'm a Charms Master if there is anything you need done in trade."

"Oh, I think my daughter would be you to the front of the queue if I asked for tasters," Florean remarked, shaking his head in amusement. "Although her younger palette prefers milk chocolate."

"Pounds are fine," Florean said. "I prefer working in Muggle money. A little easier to keep track of. Altogether, that's four pounds fifty, then, please."

Caradoc took out a five pound note and took his change. "I'll look forward to trying the new flavor soon."

He collected his bags and decided to apparate back to Hillview so the ice cream wouldn't melt. The thought Cai would be very happy that he found peach ice cream to go with her cobbler.

Florean grinned. "Enjoy your ice cream."

He turned back to his suduko as Caradoc left the shop, the bell above the door ringing gently. Martha, the employee who was pretty much the manager of the shop and actually scared Florean a little with her ruthless efficiency, arrived back a few minutes later. After checking that she could lock up the shop, he called through to Felicity.

"Come on, Flick. Time to go home. Your mother'll have dinner ready soon."
