By the time she closed the shop and sent Darla home, she was ready for a relaxing evening with Roger. She'd seen far too little of him since they returned on Sunday, and hoped they'd have a chance tonight to just sit and talk. Of course, they hadn't made definite plans, but it was Wednesday, so she knew she'd be going to his cottage after she finished with the paperwork.
It was funny how two days had changed things. It was odd to wake up and not find Roger there, and she'd not slept as well as she had Saturday night, in his arms, in longer than she cared to remember. There was more that had changed, though, as they'd become more intimate on Saturday. She'd learned his upper body, and he had learned hers. The hours they had spent just touching, tasting, and exploring had been amazing, and the fact that there had been no pressure or feeling like she should do more than she was ready for made her care for him even more.
When she finished with the paperwork, she gave the shop a once-over before preparing to leave. A knock on the front door stopped her on her way to the kitchen. A quick glance made her smile when she saw Roger standing there. She walked over to let him in, not overly surprised when Zuzu yipped a greeting when she opened the door. "Hello, Roger. I see you've brought company," she said with a slight smile.
Reply
"Hey." He leaned down to kiss her immediately, deepening it until Zuzu yipped again. Luckily she was still yipping more than full-out barking. "Someone's happy to see you," he murmured, then grinned cheekily, feeling good. "And, er. So's the puppy."
Reply
He deepened the kiss, but the bloody puppy wouldn't stop yipping, so he pulled back. "The puppy's going to learn the fine merits of a silencing charm if she keeps interrupting us," she warned, glaring playfully at Zuzu. "No barking when we're kissing, Zuzu."
She leaned down to scratch Zuzu's head before she glanced back at Roger and smiled. "Do we have plans for tonight?"
Reply
"Oi. That never works for me," he said, affronted.
"As for plans, well, not technically. But I had a plan of my own to come and collect you and take you down to my house." He stuck his hands in his pockets. "Zuzu insisted on helping."
Reply
She looked up and smiled. "Take me down to your house, huh?" she repeated, arching a brow. "Why, Mr. Davies, whatever do you have in mind? More of those cunning schemes of yours, I suppose."
"I don't know, Zuzu. Should I allow myself to be collected by him?" Zuzu yipped and wagged her tail, which made Hermione laugh. "She's not help since she's utterly smitten with you anyway."
Reply
"That was the plan," he said, nodding as he smirked. "And you can try to figure out my schemes, but it's no use trying to anticipate them. I'm a complicated man."
He rocked back on his heels as she consulted with his dog, his own face turning smug when Zuzu wagged her tail. "No excuses," he told Hermione. "That was an unqualified 'yes' from Zuzu, which means you're ours for the night. Might as well just go with it." He grinned and got the door for her.

He looked far too smug when Zuzu yipped, yet she couldn't even muster a glare because he looked adorable. "It's really not fair that you're too adorable for me to be angry," she muttered, putting out the candles before she stepped outside.
She glanced back at him and smiled slightly. "Just for the night? And here I thought you wanted more than that," she said, arching a brow as she started to walk ahead of him.
Reply
She looked back at him, and at her words, he grinned. "Oh, I want more," he said. "Thought I'd ease into it. Let you get used to the idea, then keep you indefinitely."
He fell into step with her and they walked down to his cottage with Zuzu weaving and darting between their feet. When they reached his porch, he hopped up and got the door for her. They went into the kitchen and he turned the vegetables back on.
"No schemes, actually," he said quietly, looking back at her as he opened the bottle of wine to breathe. "Just dinner, for now."

At those words, she waited for the feeling of panic or the restlessness that usually accompanied any thoughts of the future. When it didn't come, she blinked at the sky and tried to analyze the fluttering in her tummy. The idea of indefinite didn't sound nearly so awful when she thought about it in connection with Roger, which should probably scare her far more than it did.
"Only if you're lucky, Davies," she murmured, glancing at him with a shy smile before she looked back at the sky. The walk to his cottage was pleasant, with Zuzu running around them happily.
They arrived at his cottage and Roger went to open the door before she stepped onto the porch. "Such a gentleman," she complimented, leaning up to kiss his cheek, lingering slightly before she forced herself to walk inside and not ravish him on the porch.
"Mmm...that smells good," she told him, sniffing the air as they went into the kitchen. She looked at him and smiled. "Just dinner is good, for now. Is there anything you need for me to do?"
Reply
When she complimented his manners, he only smiled slightly and inclined his head. "Only for the lady," he said as she kissed his cheek. He flexed his fingers at his sides and tamped down the urge to pull her to him for now.
"You don't have to do anything," he said, taking down the glasses. He'd been more than a little pleased that she liked the way everything smelled. "I'm nearly finished with everything. Just have to set the table." He poured her a glass and handed it to her before pouring one for himself.

Once she had the table set, she summoned a few candles, which she went ahead and lit even though the sun hadn't gone down completely. A quick look at the scene sent her over to his wireless, which she flipped on. It was a relief when it worked, since she wasn't sure when he'd last replaced the batteries.
"There. Now we just need good food and excellent conversation," she said, smiling at him as she walked closer. She leaned up and brushed her lips against his. "I like it when you cook for me."
Reply
"Well, I'm pretty sure I'm good for the conversation. Jury's still out on the food." He turned around to set the food out, smiling when he heard the music start. Without electricity, he was getting a lot of use out of that thing. He straightened as she walked toward him and leaned up to kiss him. "I like cooking for you. It gets me kisses," he said.
He waited for her to take a seat before he sat and fixed plates. "It's just chicken," he said, and laughed. "One of these days I'll do something complicated, but I've gotten used to not burning things, and it feels good."
Reply
She smiled mischievously before walking back to the table and sitting down. He joined her, and she checked out the food. "There's no such thing as 'just chicken', Roger. I'm starving, so we'll hope it tastes as good as it smells."
After fixing her plate, she took a bite of chicken before sipping her wine. The chicken was fine, not at all dry or burned, so she nudged Roger's leg with her foot. "See? It's good. Now stop fretting," she scolded. She smiled. "How was your day?"

When she took a bite of chicken, he watched in a would-be casual way, noting when she took a sip of her wine after. She went on to compliment him though, so he felt okay about it, and took a drink himself. "Arlight, I'll stop fretting," he said, smiling slightly.
"As for my day, it was a lot less crunched than Monday. The move went okay, but it was a lot of just settling in. Took Monday and part of Tuesday just to get everything moved and properly set up so we could start working on projects full-swing." He paused and took a bite. "But it was good. How was your day?"
