Viktor had been thinking about Brenna's letter throughout Sunday, and the more he thought about it, the more concerned he became.

It wasn't of course, that all Muggles were bad people, although he didn't actually know very many. Still, Yoana had friends among Muggles and they were nice enough.

But none of them were raising witches, as far as he knew, and he'd heard far too many stories of difficulties. In Bulgaria, mixed marriage was discouraged unless the Muggle partner had submitted to approval by the Wizarding community and been found willing to both keep the secret and accept the potential for magical children. Magical children of two Muggles, like Hermione, were removed from their homes as soon as they were identified; there was simply too much history of abuse by parents who couldn't or wouldn't understand.

Here, there were no such rules. He knew, intellectually, that Hermione was an example of a Muggle-born raised at home and turning out fine. Still, he wasn't at all sure that was the rule, and he instinctively thought perhaps it was the exception.

He wondered whether he had any recourse. Because Brenna (and Maire) were citizens here, he would have to accept the laws here as well. However, he had no idea what they were, or whether he (as the father in general; as an alien; or as a non-husband) had any authority to insist upon anything. And he had no idea with whom to begin to find out.

Finally, mid-morning on Monday, after he'd cleaned the kitchen twice, gone for a run and showered, and sorted through his laundry to see what needed cleaning, he sighed and sat down with parchment and quill. He only really knew one person here, and much as she'd been busy, he thought she might be willing to help.

Dear Hermione, he began.

I am sorry to bother, because I am know, you have busy time. However, I am need assist, and I can not think of who else ask.

Situation is as so: Maire's mother has just tell, she is get married. She will marry Muggle. Is all right, but I am worry, if Muggle does not like witch, does not like Maire.

I am, because of this, need, advocat. To check, if I have choice as father about how she is live? I am think, you are not advocat, but maybe are know who can explain.

If you are very busy, please not worry with this.

Viktor

He debated for a bit about actually sending the letter. After all, he didn't know anything was wrong. Not really. But he'd always preferred to be prepared rather than surprised.

Of course, he also didn't actually have an owl.

Finally, after deliberation, he set off on his bicycle again, and went to her house.

He didn't want to wake anyone who might be sleeping and need their rest, so he intended to leave the note under the door; however, he could feel the odd creep of complex wards along his skin as he approached. Not surprising, he decided; he wasn't expected. Instead of walking up to the door, he simply attached a sticking charm to the back of the note, made the parchment temporarily heavier, and lobbed it at the door, where it stuck with a soft whump and hung there.

She would see it when she was ready. Satisfied, Viktor got back on the bicycle and headed for home to do the laundry.
