Daphne smiled at the sky as she walked along the river. She had thought about how it was a such a lovely day when she had walked home from work and had decided on going out for a little walk after changing out of her workrobes. She would sit on her favorite bench and knit and watch her ducks swimming around. Funny, she thought with a smile, how she had come to think of those ducks as her own.

As she came up to the bench she noticed someone was already sitting there. That wasn't really a part of the plan. She paused for a moment, considering finding another place to sit. No, she wanted to sit on that bench and look at her ducks, dammit. There was plenty of bench to share and maybe he didn't mind her sitting there. The worst that could happen was that he asked her not to, so how dangerous could it be to ask?

"Excuse me?" she said, gesturing at the other end of the bench. "Do you mind if I sit here?"

Dean was trying to make sure he was able to get the small tidal pool swirling near the rock in the middle of the river correct. He felt good about what he'd done so far in recreating the scene in front of him. His pencil still moved hesitantly at times but he knew this was a part of him he'd lost for too long.

A voice behind him disrupted his concentration and he had to blink to break his focus on his art before he looked up over his shoulder. He saw a pretty young woman staring at him and gesturing to the other end of the bench as she spoke.

He instinctively moved his hand over his work before he smiled to hide his discomfort as he said, "No, please join me. It's not by bench."

Daphne smiled and sat down. Somehow he seemed to be a bit uncomfortable with her seeing what he was doing though, and she tried her best to respect that and focus on her knitting instead.

It was hard though. For some reason it kept drawing her attention and made her wonder exactly what could be so interesting about it. She didn't usually think she was a very nosy sort of person. Finally she decided that if she kept sneaking peaks like this she would just seem terribly rude.

"Um, may I ask you something?" she said hesitantly, putting her knitting down, "What is that you're doing?"

Dean didn't quite expect the woman on his side to begin speaking again. He'd just started to draw once more and thought they'd settle into a comfortable silence.

But she seemed to not be nice enough at first glance and he was drawing after all. But he normally didn't show others his work. Dean thought that maybe he needed to change that a bit now.

Turning toward her slightly, Dean studied her, doing what he seemed to do with most people. She had a nice face, jet black hair and light brown eyes but her best feature was her pale and flawless skin which he knew would look lovely on canvas. Dean decided to take a chance and said, "It's a drawing of the river." He chuckled. "My first try at art in years." He laid the sketch between them on the bench before he grinned, "Before you run away screaming, my name is Dean Thomas."
