Ben was really excited. Mr. 'Laise needed his help to pick out a kitty. He held tightly to both Mr. 'Laise's and Daddy's hand as they walked towards the shelter ( ... )

Roger and Hermione were at the shelter early, having come over after dropping off their parcels from the grocery store. Having spent the morning with her already, he'd decided to come over with her to meet them and select a cat, so they could go and do whatever after leaving.

He heard animated laughter from outside, and went to open the door. Blaise and Terry were approaching with a small boy in tow.

"Morning Blaise," he said with a wave. "Hey Terry, and uh ... you." He smiled down at the kid he'd not met yet who was currently bouncing on his toes.

It was only ten yet it had already been a productive day. Hermione had finished her chores before meeting Roger so they could go grocery shopping in Exeter. The shopping had been enjoyable, always moreso when Roger accompanied her, though she'd felt rather traitorous buying several things that she usually bought at the local market. They had taken their purchases home before going on to the shelter to wait for Blaise and Terry.

When the wards shifted, she had her wand in hand and waited as Roger went to open the door. He greeted Blaise and Terry, which made her relax her grip. She went over to join them and smiled. "Good morning, Blaise," she said. "Terry, it's lovely to see you."

Blaise looked away from Terry and Ben, his lover looking faintly amused about something, and Blaise suspected the scenario that was about to unfold between him and Ben for the source, and to the man in the doorway. He smiled warmly and stretched out a hand for the wizard to shake.

“Roger good to see you again. This is uh -” Blaise looked down at Ben then back to Roger. “- Ben, Terry’s son. Ben this is Roger, Hermione’s friend. Hermione going to help us find a cat.” They moved further inside, and Blaise watched as Terry’s grip tightened on Ben, reining his son and the child’s excitement in.

He grinned when he saw Hermione and let go of Ben’s hand, stepping forward, a little grateful for the break as he hugged Hermione. “Hermione. How are you?”

"Greg Goyle is actually in charge of the shelter as he's a medi-vet now. He and I moved them all here last week when the shelter was finished. Before that, I took care of them in an old warehouse north of the river ( ... )

Hermione fell silent after explaining to Blaise about Greg and the shelter; she seemed deep in thought and her brow knit slightly while they watched Blaise and Terry, and Ben inspected kittens. Roger didn't know Blaise very well at all, had met with him once in a work capacity and only with Hermione otherwise. She knew him pretty well, he guessed. He found himself watching her and wondering what she was thinking.

After just a moment, Hermione glanced at him; he looked back at her curious expression, wanting to ask her what was on her mind but knowing this wasn't the time. When she looked away, his eyes followed her and he didn't really hear what she said to Ben, but after a moment the kid was walking through the wards.

Blaise looked over at Hermione at Ben’s question and noticed her seemingly shaking herself out of thought. She looked faintly relieved that that was all Ben wished to know, and Blaise smirked up at her, understanding the sentiment.

He knelt and carefully lifted Ben down onto the floor to go and see the cats. He’d been looking at two rather playful kittens, and Blaise hoped that neither the child nor those kittens would decide they were the ones. Prometheus for one he was sure would not be pleased with such a choice.

He was just straightening himself up when Ben grasped his hand and pulled him inside the enclosure. Blaise raised an eyebrow in surprise and muttered something about manners and it not being polite to tug people so which raised an amused chuckle from Terry’s direction that drew in turn a scowl from Blaise.

Terry followed after Blaise and Ben, into the kitten area, happy to let them take the lead on this. He loved seeing Blaise interacting with his son, and would be lying if he said he didn't find it attractive.

"So, what do you think, Ben, see any you like?" he asked, kneeling next to them and reaching out to pet a small orange cat who sniffed his fingers.

Ben giggled as the cats climbed over him, licking his face and nuzzling his hand.

"They all like me!" he said, petting a fluffy brown cat on the ear. But for some reason, none of them felt like his kitty. He played with them for a little while longer, but soon the kitties had grown tired of him and wandered away.

"Guess those aren't your kitty, 'Laise," he said sadly. "But I'll find you one! Promise!"

He stood and looked around, mouth curving into a smile as he looked down and saw a kitty that looked sorta like a tiger looked up at him. "Hi," he said to it, reaching down and petting it softly, before looking over to Blaise. "Whatchoo think of her?"

Blaise turned as Terry sat down, his lips quirking with wry amusement at the look on Terry’s face. If it had been on a woman Blaise would not have hesitated to call it nothing less than broody and made a quick exit. “Don’t get any ideas,” he hissed, happy that at least there was no chance of any surprises with Terry ( ... )

"Look 'Laise! It likes you!" Ben said, clapping happily, before remembering he had to be quiet. He clasped his hands together and crawled on his knees over to lean against Blaise, reaching out to tickle the kitty under his chin. "Whatchoo gonna name him? Is it a girl kitty, or a boy kitty? If it's a boy kitty, you should name him Stripe the Pirate Kitty, and if it's a girl kitty she should be Tinkerbell. Like in Peter Pan!"

Before Blaise could answer, Ben looked over at Daddy and said, "Daddy, you gotta come see the kitty! See if he likes you too!"

Terry laughed and scooted over so he was facing Blaise and reached out to let the kitten sniff at his fingers. The kitten didn't move from Blaise's lap, but did allow Terry to stroke its head softly.

He looked up at Blaise through his lashes and smiled. "Looks like you found your kitten after all."
