Remus had to admit, he was somewhat apprehensive about attending one of Slughorn's 'parties'. It put that nervous feeling back into the pit of his stomach; the same feeling he had when he had interviewed for the position at the new school. Still, nervousness or not, Remus found himself standing on the front stoop of Slughorn's.

Unsure whether he should knock... or just go inside.

As always in these situations, Remus found himself erring on the side of caution. Running a hasty hand through his hair, Remus raised his hand and knocked.

Cominjg back from the kitchen, Horace heard a quiet tap on the door, and opened it to see Remus Lupin. "My dear chap," he said, "so good to see you again after so many years. Everyone's through here, do please come through." He led Remus to the lounge and said "And here we are. I think you probably know most people. Now, has everyone found something that they like?" He helped himself to a sausage roll and a glass of wine, smiled, and said "Thank you all so much for coming. Now do please tuck in!"

"It's good to see you as well," Remus said with a warm smile, feeling his nervousness dissipate. He followed behind Slughorn, glancing about the place -- and finding it to be quite nice indeed. "I hope all has been well?"

He stepped into the lounge behind Horace, smiling as he saw who all was in attendance. A comforting group of people, and as far as he could tell were people he knew. Perhaps the party wouldn't be so bad afterall.

"Reasonably well," said Horace, "although I'm afraid my retirement will have to wait another few years. My new consultancy will be a change of pace, and I hope a good one... and I understand that you're going back into teaching. I'm afraid that I can't see doing that again, but I wish you every success."

Remus chuckled. "There's nothing wrong with going in and out of retirement as far as I'm concerned," Remus said, shoving his hands into his pockets. "So long as one is happy, it doesn't matter if he is doing work, or sitting on a settee reading treatises." A smile passed over his face, Remus feeling a certain sense of pride due to his new position. "Yes, I am. It's... a lot of work to build a school up again from the ground up, but it is also quite rewarding. And trust me, Horace, there are no hurt feelings if you do not wish to return to teach. I can certainly understand."

"I honestly think I can do more good as a consultant," said Horace. "I'm too old and slow to keep a class-full of children under control, but I haven't lost my skills or my knowledge, and they're going to be in short supply for the next few years. And with any luck," he added with a chuckle, "the money will be better."

Rabastan had asked Horace for an introduction to a man he found vaguely familiar. When his old head of house introduced the man as Remus Lupin, Rabastan was very pleased. An opportunity to meet the Deputy Headmaster was indeed fortuitous.

"Deputy Headmaster, I am pleased to make your acquaintance." Rabastan bowed formally, but also offered his hand. "It is nice to put a face to the name. Thank you for considering my offer to assist the school." Rabastan turned to introduce Elizabeth, but she had taken herself off it seemed. "Are your efforts in obtaining staff and restoration support are going well?"

Remus turned when addressed by his formal title. An eyebrow raised for a moment, then Remus finally put a face to the name. Or was it a name to the face? In any case, Remus smiled and put his hand out to shake the other man's hand. "The pleasure is mine," Remus said. "And I thank you for the offer. I have not had a moment to speak with Minerva yet, but I can be fairly certain the three of us should sit down at some point and talk.

"But yes, our efforts are going well. I've had a few job offers that are currently being looked into. As with anything, the process is slow. But it is steady and that is what counts."

Rabastan was quite relieved by the man's willingness to take his hand and converse ( ... )

Rather than speak, Remus took the opportunity to listen and observe. He was no fool as to who Rabastan was. And, truth be told, he looked at the other man twice. Force of habit, really. However, of anyone, Remus was slightly more inclined to give Rabastan a second chance and time to explain himself. Not that he was judge, jury and executor, of course.

"To be honest, I can see a need in something such as that, only because it funds education. And, in the end is something that could certainly benefit Stoatshead Hill. I do believe it is something that should be brought up," Remus said thoughtfully, mind jumping forward to a potential meeting with Minerva.

"I do not know what Minerva has in her head at this point in time. Yes, I do have questions, but a party is no place to discuss business, or so I've been told. I am hoping to stop by her home early in the week to discuss things. I can imagine that she would want to meet with you this week. I believe Friday would suit me the best and I will bring this up with Minerva when I see her."

Rabastan nearly lost control of his countenance when the Deputy Headmaster mentioned that a party... Horace Slughorn Party was no place to discuss business. He wondered how well the man knew Horace. His parties may be social occasions, but Horace Slughorn parties were well known for their networking opportunities. However, Rabastan did agree that his former Housemaster's home was not the place for in depth discussion.

"As Friday would do very well, I hope the Headmistress will be available. However, if not, I am perfectly willing to meet with you both separately. I'll await word from you then. I hope you enjoy the party, sir." Rabastan offered his hand once more before he excused himself and looked a question at Ollivander who stood with two ladies, one of whom he hoped to talked with this evening, and Horace.

Nodding, Remus shook the other man's hand as they took their leave of each other. It had been a fortuitous meeting to be certain. "I will send word to you later this week," Remus said, a final hand shake and turned on his heel. The party was getting larger by this point, and though Remus had a desire to see the rest of the house, Remus knew he couldn't stay much longer. Gilen was waiting up for him and he had promised that he wouldn't be gone more than an hour. A quick check of his watch said that he was nearing the end of that hour. Later, he would make his apologies to Horace for slipping out.
