Parvati didn't think she could take another night of solitary pacing in her flat. She considered a walk, but decided to get a drink and possibly some food to take home at the Five Alarm. Maybe she would pop over to see if Lavender was around. Fat chance of that. Girls with boyfriends were rarely home alone on Friday nights, were they?

To her delight and surprise, as she opened the door, she found Lavender sitting at the bar.

"Hello, stranger," she cried out.

Just taking a sip of her drink, Lavender nearly splashed it over the bar as she heard a familiar voice. Lavender turned and grinned when she saw Parvati, quickly putting down her drink so that she could go and give Parvati a hug.

"Parvati!" Lavender gave her a quick squeeze and stepped back. "How are you?"

she was glad Lavender seemed happy to see her, and returned her hug enthusiastically.

"I was just thinking of popping by to say hi tonight!" She sat down on the stool next to Lavender. "I'm...I'm..." With Lavender, she could be honest. "I'm great, but a bit of a nervous wreck. Charlie's cooking dinner for me at his place tomorrow night."

"What's new with you?"

"Really? Now I feel bad because I haven't seen you properly for ages." Lavender smiled as Parvati told her about her plans with Charlie. "Oh, that sounds lovely. You don't look too nervous." She bit her lip. "So I take it things are going well between you two? You were at Ron's party together, weren't you?"

Lavender took a sip of her drink. "Um, not a lot really, I think. Still with Ron, obviously. I've been busy at work this week, so I'm too tired to cook - I've just ordered some food."

Parvati blushed. "He was doing his best," she admitted. "I felt disapointed that you and I didn't get a chance to talk, but once we wished Ron a happy birthday--it was just so crowded there."

It sobered Parvati to remember that other people, like Harry, had been through unspeakable things in the war. Sometimes it was easy to assume one was the only person in the world with problems.

I've been thinking of going down to that nursery of Neville's, too. Maybe get a bit of that courtyard garden planted, or start up a window box. Would you want to go with me? I know it's only Neville, but I still get nervous..."

Lavender nearly cooed over Parvati's blush, but held it back. Still, it was wonderful to see her over someone. "I know. I wish we could have talked, too. But it was kind of noisy, wasn't it? Probably wouldn't have been able to chat much."

She nodded. "Of course I'll come. It would be nice to see the courtyard looking good. It's a bit neglected right now - I know my dad would be horrified if he saw it."

"No kidding," Parvati said. "Perhaps if I get started, others would come and help. I'm a bit ashamed at how little I know my neighbors."

"So, what did you get Ron for his birthday? Or was it something too...personal?" She winked and took a sip of her drink.

"Ron's birthday? Oh, um... well, he came round to my place and I cooked dinner for us both. I gave him a broomstick servicing kit." Lavender looked pointedly at Parvati. "Yes, for his actual broomstick," she added. "Nothing naughty about that." She grinned. "There was a personal aspect to the evening, too."
