As he stood in front of his mirror in trousers and tucked-in shirt, Roger did up his tie. Then undid it, then tied it again.

When she approached it like a problem to solve, it helped her relax. A list would have been even better, but it was unlikely that Roger would understand her stopping the kissing, especially when it was as nice as it was, to write a list of how exactly to kiss just as a security blanket. Instead, she'd have to focus and listen to his instructions.
The first was relatively easy, which made her feel even more foolish for not just instinctively knowing or going with how things felt, which was just not something she did very well. His hands were gentle as he cupped her cheeks and tilted her head back.
"Just you," she repeated, wondering if he had any idea what an understatement that was. She parted her lips and nipped at his thumb lightly, watching him as well as she could when they were this close. When he whispered against her lips, she breathed and moved her hand back into his hair. Closing her eyes, she brushed her lips against his several times, just trying to relax and not worry so much. Finally, she pressed more firmly and shyly ran her tongue against his lips.

His mouth opened slightly, and he hung back momentarily, not wanting her to feel pressured to just shove her tongue in his mouth. Go slow. He tried to focus, to breathe, as he spoke. "Just... keep your eyes closed, and let your tongue sort of feel your way around my mouth. Just explore, like this." He demonstrated on her, eyes shut, tongue slowly moving along her top lip, then her bottom one, then inside her mouth to the flesh just inside. Slowly past her teeth to find her tongue and flick against it. He pulled back, his breathing shallow.
"Try it, if you like," he whispered, "on me."

She also liked the sounds he made. He was normally rather calm and quiet, thoughtful and intuitive, so hearing him make such noises, knowing she'd helped cause them, was a rather powerful feeling. She liked seeing these glimpses of his passion, even if she felt guilty knowing he was holding his back because she wasn't ready and because she was seeing someone else, too. Before she could start worrying over that again, he moved his tongue into her mouth and touched hers.
"Okay," she whispered, keeping her eyes closed as she followed his example.

A few minutes later, he pulled back, but stayed only inches from her face and rested his brow against hers. "Better?" he asked softly, unable to resist touching his lips to hers again.

When he pulled back, she smiled. "Yes, better," she murmured, kissing him lightly. "Thank you." She brushed his hair back and kissed the tip of his nose and his cheek.
She moved her hand over his, entwining her fingers with his. "I think I could eventually develop an appreciation for poetry," she said, glancing up at him and smiling. She bit her lip and considered it before she kissed his jaw and rested her head on his shoulder. "Read me another?"

"Ah, I knew you would," he said, looking down and smiling at her. "I think I'm going to be a bit smug about that, just so you know." He picked up the book, flipping through and settling on one before he picked up her hand again, lacing his fingers through hers. He laid a kiss on her head before he started to read to her again.
