Once inside the house, he began showing her around )
"Um, yeah, a drink would be nice," Lavender agreed, reaching up to tighten her ponytail where it had come loose during the meeting. "I'll try some of the beer if that's okay." She shook her head when Ron mentioned food, slipping her satchel from her shoulder; it was a little different than her usual handbag, but a bit more useful. "Actually, I brought some food with me, if you're hungry."

He pulled a couple of bottles of Harp from the fridge, set them on the counter and popped the tops off magically. Then he sat down next to Lavender at the counter and watched her dig in her satchel. "That a new bag?"

She pulled out a couple of containers, Muggle plastic box things that she'd put a couple of extra charms on just to keep things safe and hot. "I just realised that I never asked you what you wanted to eat," she said, prising the lid off one. "But I brought a chicken curry and some rice. Is that alright? It's not particularly hot," she added.
Reply
"What do you mean, not particularly hot? You mean not spicy?" When the trio had been traveling, Ron had tasted a few curry dishes. "I've had curry only a few times, when we were in India. I liked it fine, even the spicier types."
He went to the cupboard and retrieved two plates and some cutlery. "I still don't like to do that magically," he explained. "Never liked the thought of plates or knives or forks zooming toward me, y'know?"

She giggled, nodding as Ron set down the cutlery, pulling the plates close so that she could dish the food up. "I know what you mean! Probably not the best idea to Summon knives, just in case you lose your concentration or something." Lavender spooned the food onto the two plates and pushed one in front of Ron. "So how've you been?" Lavender asked, reaching for her drink. "You said you made up with Hermione?"

"How's Parvati doing?" Ron asked, smiling at the idea that Parvati was as interested in Charlie as he was in her. "I've seen her only the one time since I got back. Didn't notice anything different then, but Charlie said she's sort of quiet and shy these days. That was a shock. Not like the Parvati I knew at school." He gave Lavender a long look. "Is she okay? Really? I mean, she must have gone through something really bad in the war if her personality has changed that much."

She took a slow drink of her beer as she thought about Parvati. "Sometimes she's like how you probably remember her. But other times she... is a lot more reserved." She caught Ron's look and sighed. "From my point of view, it feels like Parvati's getting back to her old self, but I don't know if she'll ever be that girl you used to know. Not after what the Death Eaters..."
Lavender cut off and frowned, shifting uncomfortably and scratching her neck. "It was bad," she said finally. "And I don't really like talking about it."

Death Eaters. Parvati had some sort of very bad encounter with Death Eaters. Ron had seen most of what the Death Eaters could do and some of what they seemed to enjoy doing. The thought of what they might have done to Parvati sickened him. "Bloody...'s okay, Lav." He put his hand over hers. "Hard to see your best mate unhappy, yeah? Must've been something horrible, I'm sure. Charlie seemed concerned too when I had lunch with him. He seems to like Parvati a lot."

She stood up quickly, not wanting to dwell on thoughts of Parvati's experience. "How about I show you a couple of charms?" she suggested, reaching for her bag. Lavender found her wand and pointed it at her plate. She said an incantation aloud, giving the wand a small upwards flick, and the surface of the plate seemed to shimmer with bubbles for a moment before the remaining traces of the food disappeared leaving the plate spotless. Lavender grinned. "I like the bubbles on that one," she admitted.

Ron watched as Lavender used a cleaning charm to make her plate spotless. "Wicked! I'll try that on mine now." Taking his wand, he repeated the incantation and watched as the plate seemed to clean itself. "Thanks, that's great." He gave her a quick peck on the cheek. They cleaned up the rest of their dishes the same way and put them back in the cupboard.
"Well, I reckon we could watch a film now if you want," he said, nodding toward the living room. She followed him out of the kitchen and took a seat on the sofa as Ron examined a shelf full of DVD cases. "Hmm, here's a few I haven't seen yet." He pulled out three cases titled SHREK, ARMAGEDDON and BRIDGET JONES' DIARY. "What do you think?"

She followed Ron out to the living room, settling herself on the sofa and getting comfortable as Ron examined what almost looked like a library of plastic book-type things. "Let's have a look," she said, taking a look at the cases; they were surprisingly light and Lavender remembered how Ron had explained in his letter that the DVDs were actually discs, so she supposed these were just protective cases. The ones that Ron had chosen all looked quite different - an animation, the concept of which intrigued her a little, a film about a woman which was apparently based on a book and something about Muggles trying to stop the end of the world or something like that.
Lavender handed them back to Ron, shrugging. "I don't mind what we watch. They all sound kind of interesting."

Lavender didn't seem to care which film they watched, so Ron chose SHREK. "This one looks like it might be funny," he said, turning the player on, putting the disc inside and starting the film. Seating himself next to Lavender, he slipped an arm around her shoulder. She cuddled up next to him with a contented sigh.
The film was funny, Ron decided; anything that made him laugh that hard had to be. Though he did wonder about what Muggles thought about some of the things that happened in the film.
"That troll's way too intelligent," he snorted.

She bit back a giggled at Ron's comment, enjoying the film even if seeing the drawings move like that was just bizarre. Some of it looked so real, too! "Don't think it's meant to be realistic," she teased, looking up from where she had rested her head against him. The film was a pleasant distraction from real life, too: a bit of escapism. "I think this film was a good choice."
Reply
"No, I 'spose not," he answered. "I'm glad you like it. It's fun, yeah? That Arma-whatsit looked too serious. And Bridget Jones? Dunno if I want to see some Muggle bird's diary on the screen."
