Date: 27th January 2005 Character(s): Su Li, Gilderoy Lockhart, Luna Lovegood Location: 1A Copper Towers, the Hospital Status: Public Summary: Su visits the hospital Completion: Complete
Gilderoy had been sitting in the waiting room for the better part of an hour. "Stupid stupid check-up thing. Don't see why if I'm feeling fine they hafta make sure I'm telling the truth," he grumbled.
To make matters worse, there was absolutely nothing to do here. Oh, he had his share of mediwitches come up to him, giggling, ask if he wanted some coffee or tea, and then run off in a twitter, but there was nothing to actually do whilst waiting for one's name to come up next on the queue.
"Mister Lloyd Houndsend?" The head Mediwitch called out.
Su limped into the waiting room with the help of her umbrella-cum-cane, filling in some paperwork at reception before finding a seat. It was busy today; the only available chair was next to a very sparkly man who looked vaguely familiar.
Su sank into the chair gratefully, propping her swollen foot (and its unfortunate slipper) onto a nearby table. That was probably rude, but desperate times and all that.
She turned to the man next to her, who kept shifting in his seat. "Excuse me, you look very familiar. Aren't you Professor Lockhart? I was a student of yours at Hogwarts, Su Li." Last Su had heard, Lockhart had been in hospital, but apparently he'd improved. She had been away for quite some time.
The young woman who sat next to him was petite, quiet, and was wearing the most incredible pink slippers he had ever seen. They were an even brighter shade of pink than his own slippers!
"Sulie? That's a pretty name. Sulie... I'm Gilderoy. But then, you already know that, don't you?"
Her foot was swollen and had turned a strange color. "I take it you're here to have that looked at, are you?" Gilderoy leaned in close to whisper. "You know, a simple glamour charm would take all of that bluish yellowish purpleish red out and replace it with a bright and cheerful fleshy color."
Su giggled. Maybe the stories that had circulated Hogwarts about her old professor were true after all. "Thank you. It's Chinese. Most people just call me Su, though. But Sulie is fine, if you'd rather." No reason to be unkind to the man, after all. "How are you? You look well, despite being here."
A glamour charm for her ankle? That definitely had not crossed her mind. Clearly Gilderoy was as vain as ever. Honestly. "Yes, I took a nasty spill the other day, outside the Five Alarm. The glamour charm is a good idea, but maybe I'll wait until later, I don't want it interfering with the Healer's work. The real problem is that I can't walk. Do you know a charm for that as well? I don't."
"Have you been in Stoatshead long? I've recently come back from Shanghai, so I'm hoping to find a job soon."
Gilderoy leaned back in his chair and crossed his legs. "I've been here for a little over a year now," he said in a much more relaxed tone. "We all evacuated just before St. Mungo's was attacked. Well, not all of us, of course, but most of us on the 4th floor had been evacuated. It was... difficult. I was living above the Five Alarm for almost the entire year. But now that I have my own shop, I live there half the time, and half the time I'm living at my lover- fiancee's flat down in the downtown area

Well. Gilderoy seemed much more relaxed, now that he was talking about himself. His posture had gone from uncomfortable to expansive. Some things never changed, which was rather reassuring, in its way. "Your fiancee? Congratulations! Who's the lucky witch?" Su was honestly curious what sort of woman would want to marry Gilderoy Lockhart.
Su opened her mouth to speak several times while Gilderoy described his business, but it was rather hard to get a work in edgewise. And his bunny friends? Interesting

"Aah, well, that's perfectly understandable. Ministry sure sounds like a big and important name. I'm sure there are a lot of people there who are working to restore the Wizarding world. Lots of... lots of people."
Gilderoy pressed his lips together and nodded his head slightly, glancing off into the far corner of the room.
"Miss Morgana Mortenstern," the mediwitch called out.
"Aah! Did I tell you about my fiancee, or why I'm here? Well, you see, it was a particularly uneventful day at the shop. I had just taken in a rather meager order, and collected on another custom tailoring design - A set of wizarding robes of navy blue wool with copper trim and a bronze inner lining of crepe satin with embroidered vine along the lower hem and cuffs. Anyway, I was just preparing to send out another owl to a feed supplier - not really know just who to send it to last time really made the previous owl a bit confused in regards to where it should go
( ... )
Su was relieved that Gilderoy didn't mind her equivocal answer. Something about him had seemed a bit off during the entire conversation, and she honestly hadn't known how he would react

Apparently that charm affected more than Gilderoy's brain, although Su remembered pondering such things with her housemates long ago. No straight man should be that shiny. Su smiled to herself.

Gilderoy sighed and sank deeper into his seat.
