Summary: Hermione sends a couple of owls
Completion: Complete

Snape,

I expect that you’ve heard the news, but I wanted to tell you personally. Voldemort is dead, as are Bellatrix and Macnair. I would have sent word sooner, but we were recovering and then traveling. One of the curses that Bellatrix threw at me caused more damage than originally believed, so it’s taken longer than expected.

If you need us for any reason, we’re in Ottery St. Catchpole, near the Burrow. Well, it seems to be called Stoatshead Hill now from what we can tell. We just got here late last night and haven’t had the opportunity to see anyone yet, but there appears to be a lot of damage that we passed along the way.

Thank you for your assistance with our mission. I know that we were able to complete it soon than we otherwise would have due to your help.

Cordially,

Granger

Dear Viktor,

This letter might surprise you considering the time that has elapsed since the last one I sent all those years ago. I promised then, though, to write you once this horrible war was over. It might not actually be over completely, as there are still supporters of Voldemort at large and the reconstruction, itself, will take time, but, for all intents and purposes, I’m considering Voldemort’s death the end of the war. So here is the letter and my kept promise.

I trust that this scroll will find you alive and well, as I don’t want to consider it being returned to me due to you not surviving the war. Forgive me for not being particularly interesting and for the awkwardness in this correspondence. I’m not used to communicating these days, so it’s going to take me some time to remember how, I imagine.

Also, it’s only been a few days since the war ended, so it still feels somewhat surreal to me. I keep thinking that I’ll wake up and find us camping in some forest in the middle of nowhere with much more to do before it’s over, and that this success is nothing but a cruel dream. I know, logically, that it’s real, but it’s difficult to adjust and acknowledge that, after so many years, it’s finally done.

I hope that you and your family managed to survive the war with minimal loss. The boys and I have finally come home (well, to somewhere we hope to make our home) in a town called Stoatshead Hill, formerly Ottery St. Catchpole. Viktor, I’ll understand if you’ve no interest in renewing our friendship considering the time that has passed with just that one brief unexpected meeting a couple of years ago. I just wanted to keep promise, make sure you were alive, and at least try in case we could become friends again.

Take care,

Hermione
