She’d said to wear something casual. Blaise was pretty sure that this counted as casual. But she had also mentioned comfortable and on that point he wasn’t convinced.

When Blaise thought of comfortable clothing it was his linen slacks and shirts that he wore around the house that came to mind. Even his suits were oddly comfortable in the formality and routine that they offered. He felt himself in those clothes. They suited him. But these…

It wasn’t that he didn’t look good, he was quite sure he did. The jumper he had bought was quite complimentary and brought out the gold in his eyes. The boots too weren’t bad. And the jacket - a Crombie he had been informed by the sales assistant that had assisted him - was quite acceptable. In fact it would look good with his suits, Blaise allowed. But it was the jeans that Blaise wasn’t sure about. They were well fitted and, he supposed, the hardwearing fabric was practical, but he just didn’t feel himself in them. And the coarse stitching and material around the crotch certainly wasn’t comfortable against his skin.

Blaise contemplated changing them for a pair of soft black slacks, but Hermione had specifically suggested that jeans would be suitable for whatever it was she had in mind.

Resisting the temptation to change, Blaise took a final look in the mirror. He placed the scarf Hermione had bought him for Christmas around his neck and then set off, raising his house’s wards behind him as he left.

As he stepped onto Alpha Street, Blaise began to contemplate what the witch might have planned. He’d asked her to surprise him, and he had a feeling that she was one of the few people who could. He suspected that it would be something Muggle, but beyond that he found himself oddly in the dark. At least he wouldn’t have much longer to wait to find out.
