Dear Professor,

I apologize for the delay between our last note to you and this correspondence. It appears that I was slightly more injured than we realized (though I am much better now), so it’s taken us longer to travel than anticipated. However, we’ve now arrived in Ottery St. Catchpole, though it seems that’s no longer what the village is being called. Regardless, we’re alive and reasonably in one piece (well, actually, three individual pieces, but I’m certain you understood my intent).

It’s rather late so we didn’t wish to disturb anyone that might still be alive around; we’ve just found an abandoned house that we’ll use to rest and recuperate from the past few years days as well as make a home now that we have an opportunity to stay in one place. I just wanted to take a moment to send this in case you were worried. It appears that word of Voldemort’s demise has been spread, which means you did receive our earlier owl. I wasn’t certain as Cliodna is a new owl that I acquired whilst abroad, and I’d not yet had to send her on such an important errand. Hedwig would have happily carried the news, but she deserved a rest this time.

Once we’re settled and Ron’s had the opportunity to see his family, we’d like to meet with you and possibly a few others to hear news of the last seven years. It is regrettable that we were unable to be in contact with anyone, really, but it was for the best. We tried to keep up with information from the newspapers, but we know we've missed so much. We assume that the Order has grown in size since our last meeting, but prefer for any ‘debriefing’ to only include you, Moody, Shacklebolt, Tonks, and/or Lupin (if they‘re available and managed to survive). No offense to anyone else, but we have a hard time trusting people these days. I didn’t mention any of the Weasleys simply because Ron will see them on his own.

On a personal note, I really look forward to seeing you again, Professor. It was your example of intelligence, bravery and strength that would often help me get through the worst of it when we first began our mission. For that, I thank you.

Cordially,

Hermione J. Granger (and, by proxy, Harry Potter and Ron Weasley)
