Katie had completely lost track of time when she heard the knock on the door. In fact, she had nearly forgot her plans to have dinner with Cedric, even if they had been made only two days before. When the knock interrupted her reading, Katie cursed when she glanced at the clock on the wall, noticing it was already past six ( ... )

Well, at least she hadn't been sitting about, wondering where he was and opening the door the minute he knocked. "Hey there." She looked a bit frazzled. "And yeah, long day. You?" He motioned ahead of him out into the hall. "And I reckoned I'd just apparate us to an alley I know of that's fairly close to where we're going. Do you mind?" Some people got a bit nervous about side-along apparation with somebody they didn't know well.

"Not exactly busy, although I was running a bit behind when you knocked," Katie admitted, although not bringing up the fact she had nearly forgot entirely. "I had kind of gotten lost in some reading I was doing."

She followed him out into the hall, slipping on the jacket she had transfigured, although she had kept it the same standard black as the colour of her coat. "No, side-along apparating sounds fine," Katie replied as she locked the door with the key, and set the basic wards she had placed on the flat. "I don't know most of Exeter well enough to find the place on my own. Who knows where I would end up."

"Well, we can't have you landing in Timbuktu." He laughed and once they were outside, slipped an arm around her waist, trying to keep it as relaxed as possible. She might currently be seeing George, but she was a lovely woman and he didn't want her to think him inappropriately groping. She looked slender but felt solid. Quidditch players had to be tough. "One, two, three ( ... )

"Ah, the days of needing everything filled out in triplicate to do the smallest thing," Katie replied with a sigh, "it's been such a hardship with that being different."

Cedric was almost too sentiminetal to be real, but she supposed there was some validity in wanting people to feel some belonging with the museum, rather than keep it as an impersonal place - where things were to be seen but not touched. "I'd say perhaps stick to the back wall of the building for the public painting if you want an area that doesn't matter," Katie added with a smile, "although having a group paint in an alleyway or something doesn't really get the sentiment you are going for ( ... )

"I will confess to having an ulterior motive on the encouragement of participation in the painting." He grinned. "If you can get people to commit to something by participating in some way, even if it's just asking questions they feel a need to reply to, then they're invested. And if they're invested, they're more interested -- and more likely to be supportive." He took a drink of water. "I'm a manipulative little bastard sometimes -- but don't tell anybody I admitted as much. You'll ruin my public image." He winked.

The Sorting Hat hadn't offered him Slytherin for no reason.

"And yes, I know what you mean about the issue of birth -- have to know the 'right sort' and all. Rather annoying, and I hope something that we can change in the new government, you know?"

"How underhanded," Katie replied, pretending to be impressed, "Why Cedric, I never knew you had it in you. Here I was, under the impression you were wanting people to feel a kinship with the museum for more ultruistic purposes. I suppose I should warn you in advance, despite the investment I feel from helping, I don't think the occasional visit I may make once it's open is going to lead to booming business ( ... )

"I'm sneaky that way," he confirmed, still amused. "Although yes, I really do want people to feel as if the museum is theirs. Nonetheless, museums can become the sort of thing a culture thinks it 'ought' to have but doesn't find any too interesting. I'd like to change that, if I could. I've been taking notes on popular museums, including the one I work for. They tend to have community interaction. So while it's quite a ways in the future, I have plans for involvement with the school, the possibility of meeting rooms, even a wing aimed specifically at children -- very hands-on. But we're talking years down the road for some of that. Right now, I'd just like to get some of the artifacts and artwork in there." He chuckled ( ... )

"The concept really isn't too different from our photographs, or a Wizard painting, but it's obviously not done with magic.

"And a VCR isn't quite the same -- different technology, but both record movies. DVDs are newer -- the image is cleaner." He tilted his head. "When I drop you off at your place, let me look around your sitting room in case the person who lived there before had one or the other. You have a telly? These days, it seems as if most Muggles have a DVD player or VCR -- or both."

"I have a telly," Katie knew that much at least - she had packed it away in the closet when she was organizing her flat. She hadn't really figured she would have a use for it. As for the others, they might have been with some of the other non-essential things she had packed away. "The others, maybe I'll let you check so I know what I've got?"

"Sure, I'll be glad to. And if you want me to set them up to work for you, I can. I found a house, before Christmas, whose former owner must have had a well-paying job. He -- I'm pretty sure it was a 'he' -- had more electronic toys than you can imagine, as well as a lot of the media. 'Media' is what you call the things you play on electronics: 'electronic media.' Anyway, he had a TONNE of films in DVD format. I put a lot of them in storage in my barn because I didn't see any point in letting them gather dust, but a lot didn't interest me. You're more than welcome to go through them and see what you fancy."

He was almost finished with his meal in any case and motioned for the waitress to bring him the cheque.

"If you'd lend me a hand in setting them up, I'd appreciate it," Katie replied to his offer, "although I like to fumble through things on my own, as sort of a learning process, some the things that were left behind don't have the original instruction manuals, and that leaves me without a clue. And," she continued, "if you have DVD movies I would love to take a look - doesn't really do me any good to have a player if I don't have any movies, does it ( ... )
