This was a rather tricky situation. So much was to say, then, that it was fairly typical for the Aurors. Merlin knew they had worked through their share of debatable areas during the war, several of them earnestly questionable. This posed no true threat to anyone, broke no laws. It was simply surveillance. Yet this was a world of presumed peace--an uneasy one, at that--and the rules had changed somewhat.
This was a necessary operation. However much the wizards and witches recently involved in dark activity might plead otherwise, they could not be credited as well-intentioned individuals. Many had slipped through the fingers of the law just barely, certainly had done nothing to deserve such freedoms as they had found. They had no business running about, and there was no telling what sort of trouble they might cause. Given the delicate state of affairs, even seemingly minimal damage could blossom into blatant destruction. Observation of suspicious characters would, it might be hoped, mute these intolerable occurrences.
Gawain had begun, with the help of Ms. Granger's quite clever bookmark, to compile a list of suspicious characters and to decide which warranted investigation at what point, and by whom. Already, he had spoke to McLaggen about Lucius Malfoy, an untrustworthy man in all situations. He intended now to speak with Ms. Turpin about Julian Avery, another one of the most untrustworthy sort, with a well-demonstrated knack for tying his loyalty to varying sources, turning from and returning to old promises.
Reaching Lisa's office area, Gawain cleared his throat, scanning the area. "Ms. Turpin?"
