Sibyll was sitting at her small table in her cottage with an open bottle of sherry and what was left of her meager Christmas feast.
“Merry Christmas to me…hic!”
Sibyll raised her glass in a toast and managed only to splash half then contents on herself. This had been one of many Christmas’s that Sibyll had spent forgotten in her own private corner. She should be used to it by now and in public she would put on the face that it was as fate ordained but privately it was entirely another story.
“Yes, used to it by now, fate predicted!”
Sibyll rose shakily from her chair and crossed to the mantle. There was a row of picture there, some of the only possessions that she managed to salvage from the war. She raised her nearly empty glass to a rather dilapidated wizarding photo that was frowning in rather pitying way.
“Miss you Mum…hic”
The wind around the lonely little cottage was beginning to pick up as Sibyll pulled one of her many shawls closer around her body. She picked up what was left of her bottle and started to head for her solitary bed.
“Merry Christmas to all!” Sibyll mumbled as she passed out on top of the sheets.
