George apparated with Katie into the yard. He was dressed casually in jeans and his Weasley sweater. He couldn't resist wearing it for old times sake. He had a large grin on his face looking forward to spending the day with family and Katie.

Katie had brought flowers for Mum and he had baked some banana nut bread. He slipped his arm from around Katie's waist and interlaced his fingers with hers.

He saw that Fred, Bill, and Ginny had already arrived and waved at them. He turned to Katie and said, "Want to go leave the flowers somewhere inside with the bread?"

"I think I'd prefer to leave them with your mum herself, considering she's the one I'm trying to impress," Katie replied with quiet laugh. "I doubt your brother's will care I brought a bouquet." Holding the flowers she had brought for George's mother, she glanced around the room. It seemed most of the Weasley family had arrived, including a few friends and such milling about.

She recongized quite a few of those there, but not everyone. Katie took a deep breath and steeled herself, although she knew she was likely making more out of the evening than she should. That wasn't stopping her nerves from taking over however.

She was going to pull her hand from George's, but for the moment decided she needed the contact. Trying to make it look like she wasn't bracing for battle, she turned to George. "It looks like nearly everyone made it," Katie commented mildly. "At least judging by the numbers."

"You don't need to impress my Mum," George told her. "You impress me and that's what matters." George knew Katie was nervous about tonight although he wasn't completely sure why.

George looked around the crowd. "Yea it is getting pretty crowded. Although considering Mum filled my invite with lots of family guilt and I'm sure she did the same with the rest of the clan. I think it was really important for her that we all show up here tonight. Lets walk around and look for her. I want to make sure and say hello." He finished as he and Katie went looking for Molly.

Fred walked over towards George and Katie, who looked oddly petrified. He put on his best, non-threatening smile - George had threatened him severely, and somehow he figured it was in his interest to be on his best behavior.

"George, Katie," Fred said politely. He could do this. No teasing. "How is your evening?"

He had also seen Ginny and some fellow across the room - he was curious...

"Do you happen to know who accompanied Ginny to dinner?"

He was so all over this 'acting nice' thing.

As more people began arriving, Ginny slipped her hand into Jack's, her own anxiety rising as she scanned the room, nodding to Bill and Fleur. She watched Gabrielle slip around the fringes of the furniture, looking uncomfortable and debated waving her over before she stopped herself, deciding to let the young witch get a feel for the place first.

Standing just behind Jack and to his side, she glanced over her shoulder discretely, biting her lip as she saw Ron and Hermione enter the tent, followed by a subdued Harry. Seven years fell away in a heartbeat as hot tears pricked her eyes, taking in her brother's countenance and feeling the swell of love that made her blink quickly.

Her gaze fell on Katie Bell and she smiled softly, knowing the other witch would be nervous, especially in the company of both twins and she lifted her hand to the three of them, a flick of her head indicating they should come over and join her with Jack and Molly, knowing it would be easier for both Katie and Jack to have Molly's attention split between them.

"Hullo Fred," George told him. "Merry Christmas." George then looked over to where Ginny was, "He looks familar but I don't know who he is." Turning to Katie, "Do you know him?"

George then noticed Ginny motioning them over. "I think Ginny wants us to go over there. Probably so we can distract Mum from grilling her friend. We should probably go join them," he said as he started walking over to them bringing Katie with him.

"Hey Gin," he greeted his sister. "Merry Christmas." George let go of Katie's hand long enough to give her a hug before taking Katie's hand into his again. "Whose your friend?" He asked with a grin.

"Hey George, Katie. I'm glad George dragged you along, I normally feel outnumbered." Ginny laughed, taking a step away from Molly and Jack to return George's hug, giving Katie an easy smile. Giving Jack's sleeve a tug, he excused himself for a second and turned, his hand resting on the small of Ginny's back. "George, Katie. This is Jack Sloper. Jack, my brother, George and his friend, Katie Bell."

Jack shook George's hand with a polite nod to Katie. "Pleased to meet you both."

Ginny smiled up at him before turning back to the couple. "George, love, you should get Katie something to drink."

"I'd love a butterbeer," Katie told George with a smile, fighting the urge to ask for something stronger. Although she had been clinging to George somewhat like a lifeline, she wouldn't mind having a proper word with Ginny herself ( ... )

Ginny chuckled softly, seeing the flicker of apprehension on Katie's face as she glanced past her at her mother. "I should have owl'd you sooner, Katie. I'm sorry. Between work, classes and trying to fit in an hour with Jack, I'm afraid the holidays just leapt on me. I really did want to get together, have a drink and just catch up. Alicia was telling me about the Quidditch league. Maybe after the New Year, we girls can get together and have a proper get together ( ... )

George walked back up with two butterbeers, one for him and one for Katie, just in time to see his sister stop whispering something to Katie. "Do I even want to know what you two were talking about without me?" He asked with a teasing grin.

Handing Katie her butterbeer he slipped an arm around her waist and gave a slight squeeze, she still looked a little nervous. "Relax Katie," he whispered in her ear. "It's not a lion's den. Even if we all were former Gryffindors." He pulled his arm off her waist but stayed next to her and left the hand near her free in case she wanted to take hold of it.

Each individual Weasley alone wasn't exactly intimidating - with the possible exception of Molly from what she'd heard. But the Weasley's en masse when you were dating one of them was. Ginny seemed to understand that at least, but then again she had brought someone in a similar situation. "I'm normally good at 'barking' right back," Katie replied to Ginny quickly as George approached, "I'm not just not sure how good an idea that would be tonight ( ... )

Molly looked up from rearranging the veg plate to see George, Ginny, and a young brunette woman standing close together. She smiled brilliantly, curiosity leading her over. This must be the Katie George had mentioned.

"Darling," she said, approaching the group, and reached out to place a hand on George's elbow.

George felt a hand on his elbow and turned around to see his mum standing there. He gave her a hug, "Happy Christmas Mum," he told her with a smile.

"Katie you remember my mum, Molly Weasley right? Mum this is my girlfriend Katie." George gave her a 'be nice' look before stepping back slightly and letting Katie say her hellos. He knew Katie was nervous but he was pretty sure that his Mum would behave herself. She had promised to in her owl at least.

"Nice to meet you properly Mrs. Weasley," Katie replied, wincing at how formal that sounded. "Thank you for including me tonight."

She held out the flowers she had brought as a gift for the hostess. "These are for you," Katie explained, holding out the bouquet to the Weasley matriarch. "I know they don't measure up to what you grow in your garden normally."

Politeness - check. Sincered compliment - check; she still had the flowers - although pressed that George had picked for her birthday from his mom's garden.

Molly took the flowers from her, smiling warmly. "Look how lovely you are!" she cried, and pulled Katie into a warm hug. "George must have you completely fooled." She pulled back, still holding onto Katie's hand. "Simply lovely. And thank you, dear, for the flowers. They're gorgeous. I was giving some serious thought to planting some gerberas, they are such a cheerful blossom, aren't they? Certainly warms up the place, what with all this cold. Yes, I think I'll put these above the mantel ( ... )

Katie had to work to keep up with Mrs. Weasley, conversation wise. The woman was a tornado of speech and activity. "I'm glad you like the flowers," she managed to interject, although she didn't even pretend she had any knowledge whatsoever of gerberas, "most flowers cheer up a place, irregardless of kind though ( ... )
