A sharp crack echoed through the air in front of the shop at Alpha and A. The sound was something of a precursor to the mood of the man who had just disapparated onto the step. Julian Avery stood before The Gildery Shoppe's door, attempting to pull his mien into something more pleasant. It had been a trying morning organising one of his gifts for Gilderoy. Alone and looking back on things now, the harassment truly wasn't the fault of anyone. He had underestimated the nature of his gift, then there had been a misunderstanding. He shouldn't be cross, but he was still rather anxious to get it off his hands.

Hopefully, Gilderoy would still love him after the unveiling.

Taking a deep breath and releasing it slowly, Julian felt sanity slowly return. It wouldn't be all that bad. It was for the shop, after all. Except... half his days were spent at the shop.

Oh gods, it was that bad ( ... )

"Aah, and what better time to ask him. That must be my darling Muffin right now," Gilderoy said, smiling up at Ella and the prospect of seeing his true love approach from behind her.

"Shall I get him a plate, as well, so he can have lunch with us?"

Gilderoy didn't wait for an answer. He prepared a plate with cheese and sausage, oranges and toast, and set it on the table between himself and miss Ella.

"We're in here, darling. Come join us for lunch," he called out to the man in the other room. Not for a moment did he consider that it might be someone else in the shop. Not with business being the way it had been.

Us? Curiosity piqued, Julian strode towards the sound of Gilderoy's voice. He smiled when he heard a familiar giggle accompanying it. Coming in, he feigned surprise at seeing Ella ( ... )

It's amazing how one little girl can completely change the attitude of men. "Oh, much better now that I have the two loves of my life here with me," Gilderoy said softly. He leaned over and quickly brushed his lips against Julian's, taking the opportunity to just quickly taste them with his tongue before sitting again ( ... )

It was very true that Ella's presence was like dancing sunshine to one's soul. In the time it took Julian to dote on the little lady, he had forgotten about the morning's dramatics.

Of course, kisses from Gilderoy tended to encourage temporary fits of amnesia as well.

"Miss Susan? I thought Shacklebolt was taking care of the goats and such." Julian sat down and eagerly began helping himself to some jam. He loved sweets in general, but fruity sweets especially so. "And that's lovely of you to visit your friend. I'm sure he appreciated it. Is he there for long-term care, or is it a recent stay?" He then took a bite of his toast, making a soft noise of pleasure as he chewed and listened. The jam was quite excellent ( ... )

And now for the dance. It's something parents have instinctively known how to do for ages - talk about sensitive subjects with a child in the same room.

"Well, it seems Miss Ella here has come to visit me on her own again whilst her mother sleeps. A sleep that Miss Ella could not disrupt long enough to be accompanied here?" Sleep like that just wasn't normal, and considering his suspicions about her addiction, and the added confession from Ella about their visit to Hestia, Gilderoy deduced that Millicent had not given up the potions as she had promised.

"I thought that if she was bound and determined to come and visit us while her mother is sleeping, then it might not be such a bad idea to just have her stay with us for a while. That way her mother can get better, and we can make sure our lovely daughter can have everything she's ever wanted or needed. Isn't that right, Miss Ella?"

Julian's brows shot up a bit before he could school his face. So Millicent was 'sleeping' again. He'd only had that one experience with this behaviour, the last time Ella had come to visit Gilderoy. It was Julian's first meeting of both the girl and her mother. Julian could tell then that Millicent hadn't been well, but he didn't known all the details and therefore assumed it was more a natural illness.

Nothing about Gilderoy's attitude now was natural, however.

"... I see. Well, you know what mummies need when they're very tired, don't you Wiggles? A little extra sleep whilst certain wiggleworms get a little extra attention. How does that sound?" As Ella giggled away, Julian shot Gilderoy a side-glance, asking softly, "Have you talked to Ms. Bulstrode about this yet?"

Ella giggled happily as Muffin Daddy pretended she was a princess. Muffin Daddy was funny and then Bunny Daddy mentioned that she was going to stay with them again and she could hardly sit still from excitement.

'Daddy said I could have my own room, and that Myffles could sleep in my bed and that he would teach me how to read,' she rambled. 'Will you teach me how to read too?' she then asked, tilting her head.

Gilderoy went back to his lunch and spread some of his jam on toast. "I haven't talk to her about it yet. Wanted to talk to you first," he said solemnly.

But then he looked over at the excitement in Ella's eyes. "Why, I do believe he approves of the idea, Ella. Perhaps we can talk to your mother about it at the Christmas party? But until then, it must remain a secret, okay? That is, I don't want you telling anyone else about it - not even your mother. Otherwise people might think too much and start talking before I can even ask her about it."

"Oh, most certainly, Princess Wiggles. I can even teach you how to read in a different language, if you would like. Does that sound agréable?" Julian winked to the little lady, then added coyly, "I'm sure there's plenty I can teach my little Squeak."

As Ella giggled away, Julian slipped a concerned look to Gilderoy. "Just make sure we all have that talk first, love," his voice was especially soft and gentle, but laced with meaning. He loved his Goldleaf deeply, but that didn't blind him to all of his lover's faults. Traits like boldness, initiative, and enthusiasm were admirable, but if applied incorrectly at the wrong moments they could lead to painful situations.

And he wasn't just referring to a general impatience with preparation and lubrication this time.

It was hard to sit still when your Daddy was promising to teach you things, and for Ella who'd just got her daddies, it was impossible. Standing on the chair Ella jumped up and down and clapped before throwing herself into Muffin Daddy's lap.

'Dance with me!' she giggled.

Ella giggled and laughed and preened at the praise as her Daddy waltzed her around the room. Then she grinned wider when Muffin Daddy started to talk about gifts and she clapped her hands even as she sat in Muffin Daddy's arms.

'Yes, give Daddy present!' she giggled, before wrapping her arms around Muffin Daddy's neck and leaning her head on his shoulder.
