An insistent nudge from Kali brought his attention to the flagging, exhausted owl by his door, also causing him to mis-hit with his hammer and strike his thumb.

"Damnit," He muttered, bending to scoop the creature into his hands before taking it to the peregrine's downstairs perch. He unfurled the message, before setting a bowl of water before the tired animal, scrabbling around for a couple of owl treats. Since he kept a falcon as opposed to an owl, most of his bird food tended to be of the recently-dead variety, but he still kept a supply for emissaries and messengers.

Taking the stairs two at a time, he sat at his writing desk as Kali fluttered to his shoulder, her sharp talons digging into his skin slightly.

"Ow, love, watch it." He grumbled, taking up his biro as he wrote a neat, orderly reply to the man.

Julian,

Thank you for your letter, I've sent this reply back with my falcon Kali-Ma as your owl appears to be exhausted and could probably use a short while's rest.

With regards to your forge - I'm disinclined to say that I will be able to undertake this task until I know more details. What sort of forge were you requiring? How large would it have to be? What quantity of output would it be specifically serving and what would you use to fuel it? As you know, I primarily work with wood, although I have helped to build several kilns and furnaces before, so the concepts are not entirely alien but I'm not completely comfortable with my degree of experience.

I think it would be prudent for us to meet again, under less distracted circumstances. Perhaps if you could set aside some time in the next couple of days we could discuss this business in greater detail? My workshop is open all day during the week, located on Second and River, or alternatively we could meet at a place of your choosing.

Kind regards,

Jack Sloper, Carpentry & Construction.
