Ron was lying on his bed, staring at the ceiling. It had been a busy day, what with sending an owl to Charlie for his birthday and visiting Jack Sloper at his shop. He was a bit tired and considered just keeping to himself that evening. As he lay on the bed, his thoughts drifted to the two women he was interested in at the moment, Lavender and Tonks. He wondered what each was doing that night.
At Ron's invitation, Hermione opened the door and stepped inside. She quietly shut the door behind her, not at all sure if Ron would want Harry to witness their talk or not.
"Hey you," she said, smiling nervously as she walked over to sit on the side of his bed. "You look tired. Busy day?"
As he'd suspected, it was Hermione. She surprised him by shutting the door.
Uh oh. Must be something important on her mind. He tried to think of what he might have done that would deserve a private talk. Nothing particular came to mind, but that didn't mean she wasn't planning on a Speech of some kind. He steeled himself for a lengthy discussion of...whatever.
"Yeah, busy enough. I am kind of tired," he admitted. "So, you and me, and a closed door. What gives?"
"If you're too tired, we can talk later," she offered. It was definitely an excuse to put this off now that she was here, of course, but it was easy to doubt her efforts when Ron was looking at her warily.
"No, we should do this now before I just hand you this and walk out," she decided, talking to herself out loud.
She shook her head and focused on Ron. "I went to Exeter this afternoon and bought you a few things," she told him. She handed him the bag and tried to smile confidently.
"The books I read seem to think so, at least," she murmured. She considered her own thoughts about such things, mostly from when she was younger before time got in the way of those notions, and had to admit that the other bits sounded far more enjoyable than the actual act itself. "You'd probably do well to remember that, Casanova
( ... )
"Don't worry, I will," he said, wondering who in blazes this Casanova was. Probably some Muggle she'd read about in one of her books. He must've been quite a hit with the ladies.
He listened as she explained why she'd not had a love life yet. Knowing Hermione as well as he did, it made sense, at least about work, though he was pleasantly surprised that in this important aspect of life, she wasn't going to try to plan things. "That's a good philosophy," he said finally. "Whatever happens, happens, you know? You can't control who you fancy or who fancies you back. So just go with the flow and see what happens."
"I reckon you're right about Lavender and Tonks, why I've fancied them," he agreed. "And they're both very easy on the eyes. I'm having fun so why resist them?"
He smiled as she ruffled his hair. "Thanks, you do too. And Harry, of course. Maybe one day we'll all find someone who feels that way about us. Right now I'm just happy to be alive and young enough to enjoy myself."

There was a knock on the door. Probably Hermione.
"Come in."
