Give people a minute to speak, and some of them will have plenty to say. )
It will be easy, she thought. You're just teaching. Teaching people about animals, and not-quite animals.
"Wizardkind destroyed a lot during the war," she began. "Cities, habitats. We disturbed the natural balance of magic. Most of the destruction was at the hand of dark wizards now defeated, but that is neither here nor there, in the scheme of things. If we are to rebuild our Ministry, our schools and our economy, we need to also think of rebuilding our relationships with intelligent magical creatures."
She let her eyes wander over the crowd, assessing their attentiveness, but really unable to do anything about the people who didn't care.
"The destruction - especially of Hogwarts, with the centaur and mermaid colonies close by the grounds - will have stretched the boundaries of friendship and respect we've forged with these creatures. Centaurs especially do not easily forgive. It seems that the most important goal of the present is to maintain peace, and we must not exclude magical creatures from the process. There need to be discussions about sending emissaries to the centaurs, mermaids and possibly dementors, before they decide that their world would be better off without wizards at all."
She finished with a nod, a 'thankyou', and sat down.
