"Around," Justin replied. "Stayed in the UK, but I just kept going. I couldn't seem to find any place that held my interest- I didn't have anything to keep me anywhere." He shrugged.

"A house sounds nice," he said. "Something you can really make into a home... Moreso than a flat, at least."

Lavender nodded. "Yeah. That was what I was thinking. Somewhere a little more homely and maybe with a garden. I don't know. I might try and get somewhere a little closer to the hospital."

Their order was brought over to their table and Lavender murmured her thanks. "So are you doing anything interesting later?" She frowned. "Sorry. I'm being nosy. Don't mind me."

"Dinner reunion with some Hufflepuffs. After that, nothing as far as I know," Justin replied. "And you're fine, I promise." He smiled and reached for some sugar for his tea.

"How about yourself? Anything interesting?"

Lavender carefully poured out her tea, trying not to spill or splash the hot liquid. She added a little milk to her cup, stirring it gently. "Oh, I expect I'll wander home again and perhaps do a little more reading." Lavender sipped her tea, deciding it was fine without sugar. "I've decided to start training as a midwife and, unfortunately, that means more studying."

She wrinkled her nose with a half-laugh. "I've never really been one for a long attention span so this is a nice little study break."

"I imagine that would be somewhat interesting though, wouldn't it?" He brought his teacup up for a sip. "Midwifery as a job, I mean. Wouldn't no two births be exactly the same?"

He smiled a bit and waved a waitress down, asking for some biscuits. He suddenly had a craving of sorts. "I know what you mean. My brother was the same way- he couldn't ever sit still for too long.."

Lavender laughed. "Yeah, it should be. I like the idea of a bit of a challenge, but I've only started my training this week, so I think I'm a long way away from any actual births!"

She sipped her tea. "I can get distracted a little too easily," Lavender admitted, knowing the feeling of not being able to sit still for too long.

"How much do you have to train before you can officially be called a midwife?" Justin reached for the milk and poured a little bit into his tea, stirring it before taking another sip.

"Braden used to drive my parents crazy," he said, smiling a little at the memory. "He couldn't ever seem to concentrate on anything, no matter what it was. But they didn't care. He was the baby of the family.."

"Well, I'm already a qualified mediwitch, so it'll just be a year." Lavender frowned slightly. "I suppose I'm just a little out of practice when it comes to the whole studying thing. I think it'll be better when I start doing some more practical things."

She grinned. "Ah. I kind of know what you mean - I'm an only child so I got doted on a bit."

He grinned. "Bit more of a hands-on learner, are you?" The waitress returned with his biscuits and he picked one up before nudging the plate in her direction. "Help yourself," he added.

"I was the oldest," he continued. "So they expected more from me, it seems. And it was worse when I got my Hogwarts letter- they didn't understand magic and everything. They thought it was some phase I'd get over." Of course, he never grew out of it. He'd ended up here in Stoatshead, alone.

Lavender shrugged. "If I'm physically doing something, it makes it a little easier to pay attention. Especially if I'm dealing with patients!" She smiled warmly, selecting a biscuit. "Thank you."

"So your parents are Muggles? I can't imagine what that must be like for parents to discover that their child has magical powers." She frowned a little, thinking. "Dad's parents are Muggles and I never feel completely comfortable around them, even though they're my grandparents."

"You're welcome," he replied, sipping his tea after biting into a biscuit.

"Yes, they're Muggles. It's..difficult. We didn't understand anything about it before I went to Hogwarts, and they still don't. They wanted me to stay at home once I mentioned the war to them, but I couldn't just leave everybody else to it.."

Lavender broke her biscuit in half. "Exactly! When I left Hogwarts I got this boring office job which was meant to be all safe and everything. But I hated seeing everything going on around me, so I left to train as a mediwitch."

She took a bite of the biscuit. "I think it worked out in the end."

"Sounds like as good a reason as any," he said, leaning back in his seat. "I left and I had no idea what I wanted to do. I stayed around Hogwarts, helping out as I could, but I didn't have any steady paying job or anything like that." He shrugged.

"But.. I survived, so I guess that's saying something."

"Money doesn't hold as much value these days, I suppose," Lavender pointed out. "A steady-paying job is a little different than it used to be."

She nodded, sipping her tea. "Survival is good. I mean, now there's a future ahead of us. A lot of rebuilding, but it's still a future."

"No, it doesn't," he agreed. "But it mattered to my parents. I imagine it still would, if they were to see me now."

He picked up his own tea, swirling it around in the cup and watching it go. "Yes, a lot of rebuilding. And we've all got to find our place, don't we..." Though he supposed many already knew what they were going to do, wanting to do with their lives. He was still just as confused as ever.

Judging by Justin's comment, he didn't see his parents anymore, which Lavender thought was a shame. She saw her parents quite a lot, regularly popping up to Somerset to visit them and get supplies from their garden.

"Things are different than they used to be," she agreed. "We've all got to get used to something different."
