“Look, can we talk about this?”
This was the first time in Maurice’s memory, which admittedly had only become so astonishingly clear about a week ago, that his prospective lunch had talked back. He gave the matter due consideration, and then sat back.
“We might be able to, sure. Which bit did you want to talk about?”
“Well, some of the other rats are thinking we should find our own place in the world, and Dangerous Beans thought humans’d be more likely to listen to a cat, so... could you help us?”
“Let me think... I might be able to.”
