Part II of Charlie/Kathleen for girlyswot

Oct 24, 2007 14:06

Ah! Finally! I'm back on lj with girlyswot's story. It turned out a bit more lemony than what I've been writing lately, so please forgive any awkwardness. I really need to work harder on my smut credentials!

The story I mentioned in Part I, Brother In My Arms, is a tribute to girlyswot's Meeting the Weasleys found here at Phoenix Song: Read more... )

Lovely, I like how Kathleen just starts blathering about vampires. And then Charlie just ask her to marry her, completely out of the blue. Just like a guy... forget about any complicated romance.

LOL - Charlie is *such* a guy in my mind - so I'm glad that characterization came through. And no, he doesn't want a complicated romance. :)

*sigh* I just love soppy romance stories and this one is perfect. I don't care that we didn't get all the usual middle parts the letters covered it perfectly and this was a lovely ending.

typo: “This isour story now.”

Thanks for pointing out the typo! I'm sure Kathleen would not find this up to her standards of romantic fiction, but it seemed to fit them.

LOL - forget the middle - you skip to the end like Charlie. :)

Not all that lemon...

But certainly lovely.

Once again I loved Charlie here--and the tension between his expectations and hers makes the piece.

Oh, and the Pride and Prejudice reference. That was good too. ;-)

So, I've read it 3 times and I still can't see the P&P ref. I'm obviously being particularly dim today, but could you point it out to me? Thanks!

Elizabeth's spirits soon rising to playfulness again, she wanted Mr. Darcy to account for his having ever fallen in love with her. "How could you begin?" said she. "I can comprehend your going on charmingly, when you had once made a beginning; but what could set you off in the first place?"

"I cannot fix on the hour, or the spot, or the look, or the words, which laid the foundation. It is too long ago. I was in the middle before I knew that I had begun."

"My beauty you had early withstood, and as for my manners -- my behaviour to you was at least always bordering on the uncivil, and I never spoke to you without rather wishing to give you pain than not. Now, be sincere; did you admire me for my impertinence?"

"For the liveliness of your mind, I did."

Not as close as I'd remembered it, but close enough (with a romance novelist as part of the equation) to get me thinking of it! XD

Going back and looking at it, I was remembering also the exchange at the end of Much Ado About Nothing:

Benedick: And, I pray thee now, tell ( ... )

I was thinking it had to do with the post-declaration wrap up! I'm so glad my little story made you remember such wonderful scenes, but it's a little deflating to read such wonderful lines from Austen and Shakespeare so close to my efforts. LOL - what fun Much Ado is - and P&P - you just can't get tired of those characters.
