Maria and Clarissa are, as Clarissa puts on earrings and studies her reflection in the mirror, casually discussing their plans for that afternoon (and in Clarissa's case, evening). Maria has explained that she is intending to hone her knowledge of Spanish; what she learns from Martel is not really exactly like what she picked up back home, but she does think it's slightly wrong of her to ignore half of her heritage. Liking reggaeton music does not, unfortunately, count.

And, okay, Argentinian Spanish is a little different, but...she'll take what she can get. What they teach in school is even further off, she knows that for sure, and she wants to be able to be chill in conversation, not sound like a textbook. Meanwhile, Clarissa goes to get her coat, and Maria slides off the sofa to go into her room to put on the socks and shoes she's chosen for the evening.

Martel doesn't know she's decided it's a costumed affair, for her part, but he'll find out soon enough.

Also, Clarissa will probably be the one to answer the door. With eye-rolling when she says, "Maria's in her room," which is a sure sign something ridiculous is going on, as it ever is, where this girl is concerned.
