Summary: That first summer love never really leaves you and sometimes you never really find yourself until you rediscover it.

Author Note: This was written for the Schmoop Bingo prompt (long-lost love). It is also a continuation in the verse that the arose from the prompt (Kiss - first), Summer Love - found here. I rather enjoyed this J2 AU but there probably won’t be anymore in this verse unless another prompt from the Schmoop Bingo just begs to be written in this verse. Again thanks goes to Munibunny and mpregloveranon for the wonderful cheer leading.

Jensen trailed his fingertips lightly through the cool lake water that lapped gently at his calves as he sat over the old wooden pier.

So many precious memories all tied to one glorious summer spent sharing the cool lake water and heated kisses of a teenage crush.

Ten long years had past since that brief summer discovery of love and each other.

At 27 years, no one had measured up to the impossible charm and sparkling delight of one Jared Padalecki. Lord knows he’d tried to find his equal or better, if such a magnificent man existed Jensen had not been lucky enough to find him.

He’d had brief relationships during that time, none of which lasted more than a few months as the realization that none of them came close to the perfect image of Jared that had nestled close to his heart and wouldn’t let him go.

His family had gotten sick of hearing about the long lost summer love and constantly tried to set him up with lovely young men and women that could help him get over it. None of them had, they all just highlighted to him what he had lost and made him wish harder still for what his heart most desired; his Jared.

Coming here had been his last attempt to let Jared go and move on with his life as everyone wanted him to. Really, he supposed he wanted to move on too. He needed his heart to not be a hollowed out shell that constant sought out Jared’s face in the streaming crowds of people on the subway and overflowing sidewalks as he made his way to work each day. He needed that sharp pang in his chest every time he thought he saw him framed in a halo of light in a doorway only to be disappointed a second later as the person stepped into the light and their true identity became clear, to disappear.

Yeah, he needed to leave that summer love where it belonged, right here on the peeling timber planks of the aging pier. Where they had spent their afternoons drying their damp clothes in the bright summer sun, stealing kisses and light caresses as the light summer breezes ruffled their sun bleached hair into each other’s eyes.

Jensen sighed heavily as he slowly hauled himself to his feet and quickly adjusted his cargo shorts and partly open cotton shirt from the creases of sitting for so long.

His breath caught tight in his throat as he lifted his gaze to see a tall dark haired figure standing framed by the overhanging trees of the path leading to the hidden pier.

Swallowing heavily, his heart thundering in his chest he tentatively called out, “Jared?”

The beaming smile that filled the man’s face as he stepped out into the full sun had Jensen blinking back the tears that threatened to unman him.

His voice croaking from his restrained emotion, he called out as he started striding toward the beaming man, “Oh my God, Jared? Is it really you.”

The warm muscular arms encircling him and the familiar Cologne and candy scent that engulfed him as he buried his head into the shoulder of his long lost love had him sniffing back the tears that streamed down his face oblivious to all his measures of restraint.

“I missed you so much Jen. You don’t know how much. God, I can’t believe it’s really you.” Jared’s muffled tear choked confession had him pulling them apart to crush his lips against the heavenly moist warmth of Jared’s remembered kiss.

The fierce press of Jared’s tongue demanding entrance had him moaning deep in his chest as he parted his lips drawing him in like it was water to a desert marooned man.

Minutes passed as they explored the depths of each other and pressed into each other, desperate to be as close as humanly possible. Once the need for oxygen forced them to break apart, they clung onto each others faces as they sank to their knees and rested they foreheads against each other in sudden exhaustion.

Jared’s pained hazel eyes pierced his heart with more precision than the keenest of knives.

“I loved you so much. I died the day they told me you were gone. Why didn’t you say goodbye...let me know how to get in touch with you at least?”

Jensen clenched his jaw as new tears welled in his eyes, “I tried. I got so sick. I didn’t know I was in another state until a week later when I woke up in our home town hospital. I’m so sorry, I never meant to hurt you. I love you Jared, please forgive.”

Jared’s sudden tears had him sobbing as the last 10 years of painful separation rushed through him in one drowning flood.

“I’m sorry, Jen I didn’t know. No one told me you got sick, they just said your family just up and left late one night and paid someone to close up for the winter. If I had of known....”

Jensen wiped at the tears marring his lovers beautiful face, “Shhh...you didn’t know. I tried to contact you after a got home from the hospital but they just told me you had left and no one knew where you were. I tried..”

Jared’s lips pressed hard against his stopped his words as he felt sobs matching his own shuddering through Jared’s frame.

“Just hold me. All of that doesn’t matter now that I have you here. Just hold me.” Jared’s whispered words against his lips had him pulling him tight to his chest and devouring him with his mouth.

Coming up briefly for air, Jensen whispered as he held Jared’s loving gaze with his own, “I ain’t ever gonna let you go again."
