Okay. Organizing organizing 1. I won't be a hypocrite. I watched Ouran because of the promise of bishounen and a good storyline. WTF I watched the series because of Tamaki - I found his voice beautiful, singing Guilty Beauty Love. I ended up loving the series more than I expected I'd do so I decided to follow the manga.
Honestly, I've always loved unrequited pairings and the one-sided love things. I've always supported the 'best friends' and such, plus, it was bonus points for me if they get dumped. But HikaruxHaruhi... well, getting to know Hikaru made me want to have this pairing possible. I mean, I've never read anything that showed a real chance to those people and seeing that Hikaru was different from them, plus, Haruhi seemed like she was unfazed by the lead male's beauty, so I ended up supporting the whole thing.
I liked Haruhi for sort of the same reasons why you did. She was different - stronger, definitely, though not pushy. Her attitude was amazing, and it was really refreshing seeing a shoujo character that way. And it was also against the stereotype in the link you provided (which, I think, is pretty forced DX).
You know, I have always wondered why shoujo heroines are called that - Why are they called 'heroines'? Because there are many who I feel do not deserve that title
Personally, I agree with you that. Not everyone saves anyone. They just fall in love with some handsome guy and poof - they're the hope for all ladies around the world - that no matter how klutzy, uncute (though it's funny how every one of them is cute), and non-smart they are, the handsome guy will end up looking in their direction. And if they don't, some other handsome guy who's way better would.
2. Haruhi changing
I admired her for it. and I didn't like the fact that she became someone who could no longer stay cam simply because Tamaki looked at her. personally, I found that ridiculous
I agree with you. Her sudden 180 was unbelievable on my part. Where the hell did this come from?! was something I thought while seeing her on the act.
It's a sad truth but I think this is evident in real girls. Changing to something 'better' for someone else. They love saying, "Oh, you're great just the way you are," but who are we kidding? That's almost always NOT the case. This is probably why a lot of people find it good that Haruhi changed because she finally 'realized' what she felt. She became a girl worrying about regular girl stuff because she finally saw the light, like OMFG SO I'M A GIRL AND I'M IN LOVE and all that. I agree with you there, about Haruhi worrying about her personal appearance and Hatori showing that it wasn't good doing that. Fanservice rules, I guess. blergh
3. Haruhi falling in love
Do I hate the idea of Haruhi falling in love? Well, I think now it's just that I simply had a preference for her staying single
In all truth, I had wanted Haruhi to do the same, but like what I said in my blog, if Haruhi DID end up with Hikaru, was there any assurance that she'll remain the same old Haruhi. Maybe she'd be more comfortable and less nervous around Hikaru since, after all, they're closer than Tamaki and Haruhi is. But there was no assurance, really. In short, I think Haruhi's change (or in this case, 'falling in love', was inevitable - it was something like a time bomb that was supposed to go off sooner or later.
Her handling of Kaoru's and Hikaru's feelings aren't something that I like all that much either
Hmmm, I'll definitely look forward to reading that.
I don't regret stopping. I know you'll find this annoying but I'm sort of proud of myself for not even checking Ouran updates anymore. *shot* It just hurts, still. I want to remember Ouran as how I loved it and you may laugh at me for being so dramatic, but I get like this when I really love a series.
So yeah, sorry for the long comment. =] Now that I know that you're active, I'll be checking out your journal more often now! Have a great day and I really missed exchanging comments with you, stjet! ^_^
I'm kinda strange when it comes to romance myself.. I think I can really only tolerate it when it's funny..
Yeah.. Haruhi did seem unfazed, but sadley that wasn't something that Hatori admired about her like I did, cause it didn't last >.> Too bad
But yes.. not that I don't like messages in stories.. but one is more successful about that when they aren't being preachy about it. Some people I have come across have said "But she never said she never wanted to fall in love!" For me, the key was subtlety, just because it wasn't explicit didn't mean it wasn't necessarily there

Yeah, You would think that there would be more heroines that are actually.. likable? That is, heroines who the reader is actually supposed to look up to and be some voice of authority? Nope. But yeah, the problem is is that there seems to be this thought that stupid = cute. Ugh.. It woudn't bother me so much if it weren't for the fact that that implies that stupidity isn't a bad thing >_<
Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of male characters that are considered idiots as well, but at the very least they are called on their stupidity without calling it something else.

*sighs* Why did it have to be this way?
Indifference =/= naivety and ignorance.

That may be true. I'll guess we'll never know now.
But it's strange. Haruhi did blush when she was with Mori..
So why weren't there people seriously considering her ending up with him?!
oh well.
I want to remember Ouran as how I loved it and you may laugh at me for being so dramatic, but I get like this when I really love a series.
No I completely understand.. I dunno about you. but my track record in terms of luck with pairings (or lack in this case) is pretty bad, so I've ended up doing the same thing in other instances though
LOL, it's been a while, yeah. I'll try to keep as active as I can.. the fact that my summer break has begun will help with that I think
