Nikk's mom had a big family reunion planned for today. We'd planned on telling everyone about me being pregnant. However, Nikk's sister, Jessica, has been TTC for a year, and is getting very stressed out and discouraged about it

I cannot believe that ANYONE could react in such a fashion. Jess was CLEARLY being coddled, IMHO unnecessarily. So she has yet to conceive-- does that mean the rest of the world shouldn't have children? It would be akin to a diabetic saying "I just found out I'm diabetic, so no one should eat sugar this entire week-end trip because I can't, nor should they talk about sugar." That's ridiculous

Don't stress it. You did nothing wrong, and the people who truly care about you are ecstatic for you and Nikk and Vlad. If they choose to treat you like crap, then you're right to cut off ties. You don't need the negativity.

Sounds to me like you did the right thing. I know that for me, I would appreciate your honesty, and it also sounds to me that you were very sensitive in the way you told her and the comforting words you said to her.

*huge hugs* Hey, girl! First time I've posted to your journal, but I wanted to give you my two cents -

Give it some time for Jess to calm down. I know how she feels - as you well know - but it does sound like she's being babied herself & it also sounds like maybe she needs to grow up a little bit more before having children of her own.

Give her some time & if the family still gets on you about it say "Hey, we had problems for 2 years - we KNOW how she feels, but we REFUSE to just ignore the fact that we're finally getting the second miracle that you all should TRUELY be happy FOR us about. If you guys can't be happy for us, then don't talk to us." *hugs* Good luck with it, tho....*smiles*

I think it's understandable that your SIL reacted that way. I mean, ok maybe she's coddled but it was an honest, spontaneous reaction and it certainly sounds like once she got over her initial feelings she warmed up. You can't really blame her for her feelings, ya know?

However, the rest of your inlaws? What a bunch of a$$holes!!! I can't believe they treated you that way. I am so sorry. being a good mom means a hell of alot more than buying your kids tons of stuff, and I get the impression you are a terrific mom.
