I'm listening to your podcast now. Who is the most-famous person from Winnepeg?

this is probably up for debate, but probably Neil Young or The Guess Who and/or Burton Cummings!

cool: are you enjoying the cast?

And BTO! Taking Care of Business! (Now I won't be able to get that out of my head, damn.)

Ahhh. I learned something.

I like the podcast, I jumped around and listened to a few different ones. I agree with your observations on Sex in The City and Kate Plus Eight.

the reason i didn't bring up BTO is that my unconscious tries to protect me from their relentless repertoire of ear worms!

What about Guy Maddin? Just kidding, sort of.

also, famous cancer activist Terry Fox was born in Winnipeg.

Although we in Canada think of Terry Fox as being super-famous, most Americans (in my experience) have never heard of him, so that might not be a familiar name, depending on where ghostworld00 is from.

It's all relative, though...age is also a factor. For example, both Monty Hall and Anna Paquin were born in Winnipeg, but which one is more famous depends on who you ask.

Nellie McClung (fought for womens' suffrage and all that). Not really famous, more just important.

Also, Winnie the Pooh is *sort of* from Winnipeg. :)

Hi, it's Jenny. To be honest, I don't think there IS a most-famous person from Winnipeg. All I know is that Chris Jericho is definitely NOT the most-famous.

Randy Bachman/Burton Cummings are in the running, but now there is a whole generation of people who don't know who the Guess Who are, so they're not as famous worldwide as they were in the '70s/'80s.

The most famous person to be BORN in Winnipeg is Anna Paquin. However, she has not lived here since the age of 2, so she does not count, to me, as a "Winnipegger."

All good points.

And most famous Winnipegger is different from the most famous Manitoban. Thanks to Chester Brown's book, and the stat holiday, Louis Riel is pretty famous across Canada now. (as he should be!)

In lit circles, Margaret Laurence, as well as Miriam T are very famous, but I'm not sure of their mileage outside of Canada.
