Comic book ramblings.

Ok, so I'm back! Very much neglecting this, I know but I've been totally inspired by the vast amount of DC movie news recently. I can't wait for more info on some of it but basically...

- Warner Bros have announced a Superman movie for 2012 and the Nolans are heavily involved and have good ideas for a story and seem to be a HOOGE rumour is circulating that they're going to approach a fairly well-known TV star soon.

- The Green Lantern costume has been revealed along with other promotional images and posters. Quite exciting.

- The Flash is allegedly being scripted and Wonder Woman should be just behind.

- In the past few days another Justice League movie seems to have been given the green light. The characters they're going for are The Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Martian Manhunter. No Superman or Batman, at least not at first.

Some of this is probably DC's panicked response to Marvel's HUGE presence at Comic-Con. The Avengers teaser was shown, Thor trailer, some Captain America footage and they rallied the entire respective cast of the Avengers. I did feel let down by DC's offerings at Comic Con to some extent.

I hope they get this Justice League movie (and re-casted/reboot of Supes) right. I had some issues with the casting of the Justice League movie that nearly happened in the past few years.

Returns was good. Not great, it did have a lot of faults. Kate Bosworth's Lois Lane was ridiculous. She looked about 22, had a 5 year old kid and a high-flying career - I mean, c'mon! Routh was great - as a continuation of Reeve's Superman. I think whoever comes next should be more... chiseled? Maybe a different build, Routh was awfully tall. Maybe I'm still stuck on Dean Cain as the perfect Supes.

The age thing was also a problem on the Justice League movie that nearly happened - thank god.

- Superman would have been played by DJ Cotrona - aka Routh mark II. Dark eyes and that slightly Latino look. Superman to me has always appeared more... Greek, with naturally light eyes. Cotrona looked too much like Routh and too young to boot.

- Armie Hammer was 20 when cast as Batman - the Caped Crusader has a history that spans a lot longer than being out of high school.

- Common was going to play John Stewart... enough said. Give my Kyle or Hal but PLEASE not John Stewart.

- Megan Gale as Wonder Woman. What a joke. Wonder Woman is buxom. Megan Gale is a stick insect. Case closed.

- Adam Brody as The Flash. Actually, this could have worked.

I always imagine the main JLA to have been doing their thing for some time, so I imagine them as mid 30s to early 40s. Battle-hardened and wisened by experience.

Superman - Yannick Bisson
A minor Canadian actor, but I've seen a few things with him in and he just... has it. This guy is Supes, straight from the comic book pages. The moral compass that he gives to the characters that he plays is just incredible. Give him blue contacts and WB will have all their problems solved right there.

Other choices - Matthew Bomer (a fan favourite - he already wore the Returns suit in Japanese commercials for Toyota) would be good for second choice.

Lois Lane - Courtney Cox
Something I feel they left out in Returns, and to some extent the original movies is how much of a tough cookie Lois is. By the comic books, she actually has the ability to kick some serious butt and not be the weak feminine, damsel in distress. Lois is an army brat, plus she's pretty intelligent - you'd have to be to get a high flying career with a major newspaper.

Other choices - Holly Marie Combs, Leah Cairns

Still lots of fan-wanky rumours about Tom Welling stepping up to the role. I hope not. Smallville was a good idea but Welling never made me believe he was Clark/Supes. Laura Vandervoort as Kara was very nice casting as well as Hawkman and Stargirl in Absolute Justice. Wasn't sure on Black Canary. Maybe I'm still bitter about the cancellation of Birds Of Prey, despite the fact it had higher viewing figures than Smallville.
