Heather and myself had/are having an interesting conversation. As some of you know, she is Catholic. She has her own beliefs and I have mine. Well we got to talking today...about confession of sins. She was like "Yeah, you have to confess them to a priest to pretty much be forgiven". And I was like, what about confessing them to God. She said that you confess them through priests to God. I asked her to show me in the bible where it says that. She began to explain to me that she believes what the church has taught her. She doesn't go to the bible, she goes to the church. I asked her where in the bible it says there will be a purgatory, and she says thats what the church preaches and thats what I believe. Very interesting. ..
Then we started talking about sin. She said there are 2 kinds of sin. Mortal and I forgot the other one. But mortal sins are like the 10 commandments and stuff like that. I was like well, isn't a sin a sin? and she was like no, there are bad sins and there are even worse sins. She said bad sins are like gossiping, but worse sins are like killing. I asked her where in the bible it says that. She said thats what the church teaches. It was just an interesting conversation. She got a little mad at me because I kept asking where they came up with that idea and she didn't know. She said thats how she was raised and that is what she learned. She said that you don't have to read the bible every single day. She doesn't usually listen to the bible anyways.
That was our intense talk.
Any Advice??? anything I can say to her? I told her I respect her beliefs but she refuses to understand mine. In no way do I want to bash down Catholicism. I respect that. She was writing her youth minister asking him stuff that I asked her that she can't answer.
God Bless You All.
