hearing my classmates and friends' experiences (not to mention the "benefits" that they got) in their respective ojt made me really envious and feel a LOSER.aside from the fact that they were assigned in a more challenging and exciting beat, they were able to really taste what it's really like to be media men...reporters...JOURNALISTS.waaah!
my internship in congress was really not exciting as i expected it to be.while some of them are busy attending coverages, interviewing people (from generals to victims of a bus robbery),or find their own "scoop," there i was together with arene, sitting in front of the "antiquated" computer, 90% of our time spent doing NOTHING. sobrang boring di ba? di ka na nga nakapagcover ng event e puro press release ang ginagawa mo araw-araw. while our trainer is kind enough to check our works, most of the time he failed to do so because he's busy finding a wi-fi connection.but at least we're lucky enough that if he has enough time, he would really teach us the how-to's of news writing.
so that's how my internship went. we'll go to congress at around 1 or two for three or four days, rewrite a pr release, pass it to our trainer, and wait for 4 or 5pm to call it a "day". what can you say?
flashback:
as promised, arene and i went back to congress just to observe a "typical session day" last monday. Major disappointment befell us once more because session starts in the afternoon.by the way, we were able to experience our first and last taste of a press briefing while waiting for our trainer who came 2hours late. the first one was that of a group called "batasan five" and then after 30mins or an hour, that of rep. etta rosales.i felt sorry for rosales, the reporters inside the press office seemed to ignore her.but i like the bill that she's pushing-the Marcos compensation bill, i'm not really sure if that's the exact name. basta from what i understood, once this bill is passed into a law, the ones who will benefit are the victims during Marcos's reign. I think there's a P10M(B?)budget allocated for the victims e.though i'm not convinced of etta rosales's claim that passing this bill into a law will give the Filipinos an assurance that the military can no longer harass or opress the people. that's very impossible. as long as there are opportunists and abusers of power in the military, it's not safe to conclude right away that it will "protect the people". Why, it's even written in our constitution the rights of the people (bill of rights, article 3)and yet what happened?
that day also, the house is expected to make its final decision on the bill regarding the lowering of the prices of medicine that will surely benfit the people.in fact, there a number of people who were wearing a black shirt with a print, i'm not sure nor remember what it says, but they are obviously there to support and witness the THIRD AND FINAL READING of that bill.too bad, i think until yesterday, the bill was not yet passed because they failed to get the required number to have a quorum. kamusta naman ang konti talaga ng dumating!imposible talaga ang quorum nung monday kasi wala na nga ata sila sa kalahati tapos for sure may mga kontra pa dun sa bill na yun!tsk talaga.
what else?the detained ka bel was permitted to attend the session from 3-7pm only last monday. arene and i were able to witness his delivery of his privilege speech(?).actually, he was even given another 10minutes by the one in charge(probably the majority floor leader, Prospero Nograles nga ba un?), but we decided to go home instead.
so that's it. the experience was somehow thrilling.you get to see congressmen (alan peter cayetano was infact, steps away from where we are sitting.he was polite enough to drop by and greet some of the reporters inside the press office) and how they figuratively and literally "sit" their butts off on their seats, a "calm(?) confrontation" between a politician and a reporter,
listen to the many blahblahs of these "representatives," witness how an ordinary spectator fell asleep while session is on-going, almost experience the same thing=), and prove to yourself why many politicians really doesn't deserve to be in that post...and yet people trust them! bwiset!

defensor and recto already conceded. pichay said there's no need for a public announcement regarding his acceptance of defeat defensor and recto-style,saying that he was never really that close to making it to the top12
because he's been a consistent 16th placer.
i'm strongly convinced that migs zubiri deserves a seat in the senate.he's really a hard-working lawmaker.i think everybody will agree with me when i say that he's the BEST REPLACEMENT for a revilla and lapid..hehe i just hope he'll gather enough votes to snatch the contested 12th place against pimentel whom i think will only emphasize over and over again that he's the bar topnotcher during the 90s but will only do nothing.
