Bracelets and Other Things...

My reaction was shock when I saw a bracelet on my daughter's wrist and when she told me who had made it for her. But I didn't say anything aloud. I don't think that the Avatar (or Katara for that matter) realizes the commitment in the simple act of making jewelry. Despite the fact that it's less common in the Southern Water Tribe, it's a symbol of love and devotion. Gran-Gran told me long ago before I myself had married that the Northern Water Tribe made betrothal necklaces for their wives, which in fact inspired me to ask for hers to give to Kya. Even simple necklaces for one another symbolizes some kind of spiritual bond, especially since the Avatar is a member of the Water Tribe. I just hope my daughter knows what she's doing...

I haven't had a chance to talk to Sokka very much which leaves me a bit disappointed. I can barely sleep with these meetings. I do wish he'd come by and see me. He seems to have a lot on his mind.
