I have not updated this thing in far too long...so here it goes.
SUPERBOWL
That has got to be one of the most amazing experiences of my life. We were completely soaked but it didn't even matter. I love football so much, obviously considering it is a pretty key element of the Heckscher family life, but still. I already miss it, sad i know. But anywho back to the superbowl, leading up to the game, and the after-party was also fantastic. I was on the CBS early show or something along those lines, which was neat. And apparently they took the footage of us screaming on the cbs show, and used it for a commercial before the superbowl which is again, pretty neat. I wish I could have seen it though, everyone keeps telling me, but i am not really sure because i have not seen it. ah well, it is really not that big of a deal, haha. The Colts rally was also amazing. We got off the plane, onto buses, and went straight downtown into the dome, fun stuff. They players all started coming out in clumps on pickup trucks and floats and such, and we were down in the middle of the field so I was just taking lots of pictures and stuff. Then, little did I know they were all going to suddenly get out of those and swarm where a bunch of us were standing to get up to there seats :) I was suddenly surrounded my a large mass of huge football players, and let me tell you, i was not complaining, haha. So i just continued taking pictures and then i was trying to get back to my seat, so i just followed Raheem Brock because he's huge and was just parting the crowd, haha. As i was crossing these people to get back to my mom, Marvin Harrison literally ran into me, and again, i did mind at all, actually it was pretty awesome :) and so ends my superbowl fun
WEATHER
Back at home there is an unbelievable amount of snow, even around us in Kentucky there is a ton, but here, NOTHING. Yesterday it rained, allllll day superbowl style. It was cold, and rainy. Today it started to freeze up, but then instead, it got warm and melted everything. There is a "bubble" over Louisville that is keeping it from snowing, and I am not a happy camper about it. I love snow, bah!
SCHOOL
School is going pretty well, it is just kind of high stress right now. For those of you who do not know, the UofL wind ensemble as well as the orchestra are playing at Carnegie Hall on March 8, pretty sweet eh? So inevitably, the directors are going nuts and everyone is freaking out. asdflkasdj. If it was just going to Carnegie, they would not be freaking out as much, but as it is, we are also hosting some honor band thing THIS weekend, and we have a show Saturday and Sunday night. Even beyond that, our wind ensemble was one of two wind ensembles chosen in the US to go to Killarney Ireland over the summer for the 2007 World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles Conference. Which means we are also working on pieces for that, haha. My schedule is going crazy, and I think after this, I will never ever help out a grad student with any piece they want done unless they pay me, haha. Everybody needs percussionists, and since there are not very many of us, we get a lot of requests. Tomorrow I go straight from 8am-9pm with two 1-hour breaks which actually aren't breaks because I will be setting up for ensembles. I think my head might explode :)
(more specifically about Carnegie Hall)
OH MY GOSH I AM GOING TO PLAY AT CARNEGIE HALL, TWICE! ahhhhhhh!! this may be stressful, but man am I excited. I have never gone to New York before, and this is definitely an awesome experience that I never thought I would have, wow. We are getting out of school on a Tuesday, and taking buses to New York. Wednesday will be spent rehearsing for Wind Ensemble and Orchestra alllllllll day, which sucks for those of us who are in both ensembles. Thursday I am sure will be practice and prepping for the concert. Thursday night we are actually performing!! After our performance I believe that we get to go back to the hotel and they are having a party for us which should be awesome. Friday is our free day to go wherever we want and explore new york. Saturday we load up back on the buses, or it might even be friday night, but either way we come back to louisville. I am really excited because even though my mom and dad can't come, my grandma and her friend Ms. Pat will be there, my Uncle David Heckscher, maybe our family friend Scott Morgan, and maybe I will get to see Katie Sheean since she lives there and all, and also a big maybe is my cousin Josh! He lives in New York and if he is in town at the time, he said he would take me out and show me around which would be brilliant. I am so excited! just to add to the excitement, the week after new york is spring break, so my family will be picking me up in louisville when i get back from new york, we will be driving to Florida, and GOING ON A CRUISE which is another first for me. yay.
so all in all, things are going very well :) everything is SUPER STRESSFUL but i know that it is all going to be worth it! Sorry this was so long, I am going to try to update more often so that this doesn't happen, eek.
love,
Regan
