[The writing may be smeared, as well as there may be a few wet spots on the page. Clearly who writes forgot to add who the message is for, as if it's way too obvious.]

We have to talk.

I'll be at the shop for a while longer. Is it something we can talk about here?

I can come there immediately. [Pen...tap.] If you want me to.

[Lin arrived soon, almost running, but once she got there she realized she had no idea what to say. Standing just outside of the shop, she looked in.

No, she didn't know what she was going to say. But she knew she had to talk to Bastet. As stubborn as she was, even she had understood Bastet was the key. The key to her past, to her own identity.

She walked in, closing the door behind her, eyes glued to the floor.]

[Bastet had gotten the feeling that something was a bit odd from Lin's entry; but the other woman was always abrupt, so she hadn't thought much of it. But when Lin arrived, her manner more hesitant than Bastet had ever seen it, she blinked, setting down the sock she'd been dragging across the surface of the counter for Mugen to chase.]

What do you need?

[Her voice was even and undemanding, only a faint crease in her brow showing her concern.]

I... [She rubbed her eyes with a hand, a gesture she did very, very rarely. On the other, it didn't happen everyday to have her world turned upside down.]

I think I just recovered a memory. I had heard it was possible, but so soon, I didn't think...

I see. I got my first fairly early as well.

[Bastet focused her full attention on Lin, ignoring Mugen as he batted at her hand in an attempt to continue to play with the sock. He'd just have to wait.]

And what was it?

[She stood close to the door, far from Bastet.]

I... I couldn't hear what we were saying, but-- we were fighting, and I think you won, and then I...

[She just looked away. Her eyes were maybe still a little red, and surely she still felt like crying, but wasn't going to were Bastet could see her. For that matter, it was also hard to even admit she had seen herself crying in her dream.]

[Bastet remained seated behind the counter, watching as Lin held herself proudly by the door. She could see the signs of tears, and felt her own chest ache a bit in response.]

Was I wounded in several places? Fighting with large blasts of energy?

[It may well be the same fight she remembered--Bastet hoped they'd had no more than the one.]

[Lin nodded, biting her lower lip a little before speaking again.]

You were wounded. I think the cause of those wounds was... Me. There was a... Strong light, and my shoulders felt warmer than normal... [She held her left shoulder with her right hand as she remembered.]

[A faint smile flickered across Bastet's face.]

Well, we were fighting, so it stands to reason.

[Tired of being ignored, the little calico shoved his head beneath Bastet's hand and she began to scratch behind his ears, still looking at Lin.]

The technique we were using causes energy to be concentrated on one's back and shoulders. It's called shunko.

[It's not that Lin wasn't interested in learning how she fought, how she became as strong as she was, and as strong as she saw herself in her dream and memory. But, there was something that was even more important than that.]

Will you tell me the truth, if I ask you some questions?
