So...patient of mine had an IV. It was to be taken out in the am if she didn't need it during the night.
Early in the evening I checked it. All things good. It was on the left bicep.
Early morning I reported that I'd get the results from her test and see if we should take it out.
Then she was up (no results yet), so I decided to go ahead and check it again. I pull up her sleeve. Hmm...no IV. I pull it up a little further. Still no IV. I turn her arm a bit to see the inside...no IV. I wrap my hands all the way around her arm and feel up and down. No IV.
Huh?
Not even any sign of an IV. She could have pulled it out, but I should still be able to see something. NOTHING!
So...I double check that I'm awake. I went ahead and checked the right arm, because, well...I checked an IV earlier. I'm pretty sure I didn't hallucinate that.
Well, despite the fact that I can't see ANYTHING on her arm, I conclude she must have pulled it out. So I go to her room. Nothing. I can't find the IV that she HAD to have pulled out anywhere. I even dug through the trash.
Now I'm sure I'm losing my mind. But what am I going to do? I charted on the IV AND I reported on it. Ack!
Then I finally found it hidden in a corner under the bed.
So I'm NOT losing my mind! Hah!
