i've been locked in the computer room at my parents house while they and my sister wrap an "awkward" gift for me. what a strange holiday season. if you don't know my family, then you might not understand why the aforementioned people would be celebrating christmas on december 27. that's just how we do it here in the 'no.

so i got into san jose on friday and was picked up by my cousin vanessa for the beginning of the family celebration. my aunt (and new uncle) hogged my baby cousins and other aunt and uncle at her house until new years, so i didn't get to spend much time with any of them... boo to that.

then we sat in traffic for three hours on christmas day trying to get to modesto. by the time we arrived, everyone had eaten, and half of the relatives on my mom's side had left, including "the cousins" who are like siblings to me. this is the first christmas *ever* we have not spent together. very, very sad. there was no playing of instruments and caroling, either, which i had finally learned to appreciate only in recent years. we drove down to fresno that night (no traffic, luckily) and i came home to a partially decorated tree and boxes of "christmas stuff" just sitting around. my sister doesn't live here anymore, so it's weird. no christmas decorations, no sis. :(

anyhow, the four of us (mom, dad, sissy, and i) went shopping about town for each other today, which was trying at best. traffic traffic, headache, traffic. the day after christmas is NO time to shop. really, people. don't do it.

huey lewis and the news are saving my mood now. POWER OF LOVE. represent. hopefully we'll start tomorrow off on a new holiday foot and turn this ship around.

happy holiweek, people.
