And such a lovely picture. Always interesting how others celebrate it. [Although given Prince Albert I think we here in the U.K. owe a lot of our traditions to Germany.]
Thank you *hugs back* It really were lovely days although it is always lots of driving, too much eating. ;) And thank you for your cute Christmas card and the little stars! :))))))
I, too, find it always interesting to see how others celebrate Christmas - although the Santa on the pic is not typical for Germany. We rarely have those Santas in department stores (I recently read that Harrods fired one of theirs for improper behaviour *lol*) so everyone was surprised to see this one at the KaDeWe (which is Berlin´s poshest and hugest and most traditional department store. Also of course the most expensive... A Berlin-Harrod´s I´d say :). It was also unusual that this Santa was dressed not in the common red/white dress but more like a real Bishop. Plus the angels/elves were really unusual. But oh so pretty! It was really a beautiful beautiful idea! Hope you had a nice Christmas, too! :)
Here most department stores/shopping centres have a 'Santa's Grotto' where parents take their children to sit on Santa's knee, (think this is banned now! Santa is not allowed to have children on their lap!) and Santa asks the child what they would like for Christmas. It's a very popular Christmas tradition. Going to visit Santa. Yes *lol* Harrods had to fire one of theirs. Can't remember what he did but most probably was drunk.
Isn´t it kind of sad that such an originally innocent and traditional thing like children sitting on Santa´s knee/lap nowadays gets a doubtful smack..
The Harrods´ Santa asked an Asian family if they should not rather shop at Tesco instead of Harrods and asked their teenage daughter if she wants to sit on his knee. Definitely not the kind of Santa that could give the sitting-on-lap-tradition its innocence back!
