Livejournal Entry the Thirtieth: No PiCon For Me

Aug 21, 2009 11:21

Sigh.

The Electromechanical Hand of Doom (TM) is being fussy enough - and the HMI is kludgey enough due to time constraints - that it will not be fully operational by this weekend.  That, coupled with being exhasted from multiple 20-hour days and having someone back here that I would like to be spending time with before they move, has led me to decide to punt PiCon.

Once I started mulling the idea over, my brain very quickly accepted the idea as... right.  Seems like a bit of a sign from myself.

The concept of going to PiCon was enough of a deadline to get the electronics/motor control aspects of the EHoD(TM) fleshed out and pretty damned solid, which was no small feat in and of itself (it was the first servo loop I've implemented from scratch since undergrad, and the first time I did so digitally as opposed to using an analog circuit).  So, it was not all for naught.  But man, now I want to sleep.

So, EHoD will be tweaked - especially the glove/hand/forearm ergonomics - enough that the system will be ready for Nightmare in Vermont this halloween.  That and I got my hands on a set of snowboard bindings which should help usher in the next version of stilts - no more jamming my socked feet into rollerblade boots!
