Another Halloween come and gone.
This year there were even less kids who came by our house. I think we got about 18 altogether.
It was kind of amusing, I put on the "no-eyes" makeup effect (see previous post), hung around the front hall of my house with my housemate, and waited with a bowl of candy. But when I came to the door in my gorey glory (heh) I would say at *most* 1 out of 5 kids actually noticed the bloody eyes. The majority of them were fixated on the bowl of candy. Often times they would get their candy and go back to their parents, who would say something like "Ooooh, weren't his eyes spoooky?" to which the kid would reply "... huh? What?"
After a while I tried to do stuff like stumble around the doorway and hold candy out at arms length and have the kids try to catch it with their bags, claiming I couldn't see where they were, and that went over pretty well.
Of course, there's always a rotten datum in every set. One time when the group was too big to really effectively do the candy-drop thing, I held the bowl out and said "I can't see so good, so everyone take two of your choice." One little bastard decided I was serious about not being able to see and just reached into the bowl and grabbed at least fifteen pieces of candy, then immediately retreated. There was barely enough left for the other kids who were unknowingly part of his defensive line to get two pieces each.
It irked me. And it wasn't like this kid was at some young age where he was just starting to understand the concepts of "sharing" and "consideration" and "rules". The little prick looked like he was in junior high. It's too bad that altruistic kicks-to-the-ass are generally frowned upon, otherwise Fingers McGrabbington would have gotten a heaping helping of my size 12's.
Aaaaaah. Now that I've pounded my chest and gone on about how I should have assaulted a child one-third my age, I can confidently reassume my place as alpha-male. Of LiveJournal. Of this LiveJournal. The one you're reading right now. ie "Stiltwalker's LiveJournal". Yes.
