"So how come you're leaving the club? It's barely midnight, everything's just getting started."
She shrugged. "Got hungry."
A spark of hope flickered within him. "Do you maybe want to get something to eat?"
A look of uneasiness flashed over her face as she raised her hand to push her hair behind her ear.
"Can't. Special diet."
Eli cast a glance over her slender frame, and tilted his head in disbelief. "You don't need to diet."
She laughed softly and shook her head. "It's not that kind of diet. But thank you."

He hoped this wasn't going to become an unnecessary stress in her life; the last thing he wanted was to see her hurt.
Her frown deepened as her gaze remained on the park, and Eric turned to see one of the horse drawn carriages in the distance. Piper hated them, hated the way the horses were used, and Eric had learned very early in their relationship that a carriage ride was about the least romantic thing he could do for her.
"Look," he began, drawing her attention, "how about we go out Saturday night? It's been a while since we had a nice dinner. You can wear that new dress you bought."
She looked at him, a smile playing on her lips. "So you can take it off later?"
He held up his hands, raising his eyebrows. "I didn't say that, but if that happens, then so be it."
She giggled, and reached across the table for his hand. He gave it to her, his face relaxing into that broad, warm smile she loved so much as he swept his thumb over her knuckles.
